TalkTalk reps visiting homes

Today I was visited by a talktalk rep who asked if I was a happy user. It seems they are doing the rounds trying to recruit customers and asking existing ones if they're happy. I invited him in.

When I told him that the CD rom they sent me to download their software, he said it was because I had an old machine running an old system ('98). but was pleased when I told him it had to be done manually by my son.

When I told him of my intermittant connections, I got the same reply as for the first comment.

When I told him I was replacing my tower with a newer model from my son and would be running XP on a newly installed hard drive, he said I would have NO connection issues.

When I told him of delays in answering phone calls, he said "we know".
When I told him of language difficulties, he said "we know"
When I told him of being transferred to other departments, "we know"

and to add he said "we're working on it".

I very much regret taking his name and number. But, if you are reading this, just be alert that tomorrow he could be knocking on your door. There is a team of them in our area. Oh yes, he did say they have a call centre in Northampton.

i've been with talktalk now since August 06 and not had too much trouble with them up till now.
For the last 4 weeks i have not been able to download movies/music so i asked why and they said just busy traffic on the net. that was a week ago...they now say that i have gone over my 40GB dowload limit!!!.... I dont think so some how....
and have to wait 30 days for the speed to be reset...noW if my maths are correct 4 weeks and 30 days adds up to nearly 60 days of no downoading, (and that is all day of no downloading not just peek hours).Bloody hell if you go over your limit with sky they just charge you a little extra(pence) they dont tie your hands hehind your back and kick the crap out of you like talktalk...guess were im going to get broadband from now then.

  • I haven't quite worked out why something that is 'free' (ie: broadband connection) requires such a massive army of pushy telesales staff to recruit new customers.

I'd had talktalk's excellently cheap 'Talk 1' landline package for about a year when I suddenly started to be pestered relentlessly about signing up for their 'free' broadband package ... which actually requires being switched to the 100% more expensive 'Talk 3' arrangement.

And what about talktalk's 'modem scam'?
Despite telling the pushy telesales woman that I did NOT require a new modem, I was sent one anyway ... and charged £29.99 for the damn thing.

In fact, talktalk simply helped themselves to the £29.99 for the modem from my bank account without even bothering to ask my permission! (Unfortunately they have my bank details on file as my landline phone bill HAS to be paid by direct debit.)

Trying to return an unwanted modem is not as entirely straight-forward as it ought to be ... firstly, the unwitting customer has to obtain a secret code number: from India! I was left listening on the phone to 'Something in the Air' by Thunderclap Newman for over 45 minutes before my call was answered. I duly returned the modem plus my secret code number (actually my fare to the nearest Post Office is £3 - I don't drive - so I was an additional three quid out-of-pocket too) but it's now 10 days later and I've still not received a refund.

Rumour has it that modems are routinely despatched willy-nilly to new customers (whether they've requested them or not) in the hope that they won't be returned ... thus 'earning' talktalk an additional £29.99 per new recruit!

Oh btw ... I cancelled my contract with talktalk within 2 weeks, because of the dreadful service and unreliability of their broadband provision. The woman I (eventually!) spoke to tried to tell me that I'd be 'fined' for breaking the terms of the contract ... but I managed to talk her out of being so silly!
  • Heads up - my friend said they knocked on her door last night, that's Cramlington, Northumberland. Fingers crossed they make it here soon, one door they'll wish they *never* knocked on lol
