My water bill is £68 a month, 2 people living at property

Our water bill £68 a month, it's just me and my wife living in a 2 bed cottage, is this right? we don't have meter and i don't think we could have one put in because we're renting. i tried speaking to the woman on the phone about this because i thought it is quite high but her response was "thats how much it is"

this is Wessex water, thoughts?

  • I live with DD in a 2 bed house, and work from home 3 days a week, and my water bill is that much for 4 months on a meter (Welsh Water).
I seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be

If you don't have a meter, then a leak will not increase your bill.

Have you asked the LL if you can have one put in? Provided there is no leak of course, the meter may be more economical.

The water utility doesn't set the RV of your propeprty, and it can only bill you based on the RV that is recorded. No way of appealing the RV.

Just looking at mine now, Welsh water £60 p/m unmetered. Seemed very high for a 1960's ex council house.

The per annum bill breakdown says £252 for water, £350 for sewerage. Nice :(

Mine only direct debit's from April to Jan though so we get 2 months with no bill a bit like council tax. Don't know if they all work like that but it can create the illusion of a higher bill if you're not aware of it

But the RV is a historical figure based on the rental value from the 1980's. Many such properties as you describe would have a higher RV than a great big draughty mansion, simply because at that time there was little rental demand for such properties.
The RV has absolutely no connection to the size of, or facilities in the property.

You are not alone. Many people think it has something to do with 'rates' or Council Tax.

IIRC all water company's websites have tool which you can use to calculate your water costs if a meter was installed at your property.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
