Can a Hotel change its rate

Hi

I recently booked a hotel in Vegas for a week with a well known online hotel website.

Today - they emailed me saying they had been informed that there was an issue with the rates which I have booked at. Unfortunately, a promotional rate was offered that should not have been available at the time my booking was made. They've renegotiated the rate with the hotel which is more expensive than my original booking.

Are they allowed to do this?

Thanks for any advice

What do their Booking Conditions / T&C's say?

Which online company, which hotel, what rate did you book, what's the new rate and when is it booked for?

The reason for all the questions is to see if it is a fair rate, etc.
  • It was with booking.com - I cant find anything in the T&C's to say they can change the price but I'm no legal expert.

It probably was undersold to be fair - when I booked the price quoted was $138 for the week but they've increased this to $208.

I suppose I should be happy I've got a good deal, but part of me thinks they should honour the original booking

I understand what you mean but

A Weeks Holiday In Vegas for 208 dollars - WOW:j:j:j
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • I work in a hotel so can give you a bit of advice!

Booking.com are just the agent and are acting upon the instruction of the hotel - the rates that they advertise come directly from the hotel and are nothing to do as such with booking.com - they have no power to decide them or change them once the booking has been made.

If the hotel has advertised these rates by mistake the best thing to do is to contact the hotel directly and see if they will honour your booking at the original price - they may say no but its worth a try. Try emailing the reservations manager in the first instance - good luck!

Not sure of the answer but which hotel is it that is only $200 for a week.

Hooters, maybe, if you are talking anywhere near the strip

have you asked Booking.com to stick to the original rate
  • It wont be the decision of booking.com - theyre just an agent and act on the instruction of the hotel.

Im guessing someone at the hotel has loaded the wrong rates onto the booking.com system (its all done via computer) then have realised their mistake and contacted booking.com, who then have to contact the customers.

Its not very nice but it happens more than you think :(

what do you get for $200 a week, a piece of carpet in a skip? I would be expecting to be paying that per night.

Did you receive confirmation of the booking at the low rate?
Normally no booking is looked on as firm until confirmed.
