I got a text from O2 last night saying that they'd been applying 2 allowances to my (payg) phone by mistake. Doesn't really surprise me seeing as the deal I've had since I got it has been, for a £10 top-up:
100 free anytime / any network minutes
300 free texts
My £10 credit still to spend.
For a £15 top-up I also got 150 off-peak minutes to landlines / O2. I generally cope quite happily with a £10 top-up every other month.
Now, £5 a month for what mobile I need seems pretty MSE to me so I was a little worried about what the new tarif woould be. All they said was that I'd be on "Online calls and messages" from December, but there's no such thing on their site. I started looking at porting my number elsewhere, but there's not really anything out there that comes close for my usage except for giffgaff using a £5 goodybag
Digging back through MSE, I found the "online calls" tarif as a 2005 deal - about when I got the sim card - which is what's been giving me the 100 mins (or 100 messages) and the credit to spend. It seems I was also getting a Talkalot allowance if I topped up the extra (which I rarely do).
So no, O2, I wouldn't like to take you up on your follow-up text today suggesting I could "upgrade" to one of your current tarifs where my top-up would all disappear in allowances I wouldn't use. If MSE hadn't had the old tarif details you might just have fooled me with that one
