Sorry to hear about all your troubles. Dealing with creditors can be a nightmare, I've come to the conclusion most of them don't reply to letters so forcing you to call them on their expensive 0870 numbers.

I would sign up with CCCS asap they will distrubute the token payments and send your budget to them. They've been great with me and OH and get responses from creditors most of the time as they are well respected in the credit industry. Best of all it's free too :)

Good luck and keep posting :)

My boyfriend is with the CCCS too and I couldn't thank them enough. They have been great and although it takes time sorting it and some threatening letters, sit tight, let CCCS do the work and you'll start to feel a whole lot better about everything.

    We certainly did!

    Good luck, you'll be fine!

CCCS seemed to want me to do the letters which I though defeated the object of having CCCS, surely if a company recevied a letter from CCCS then they would act more than receiving one from me?

  • They will have provided you with the letters though? You just complete and post and then after that, you do literally just have to sit back and wait. You will probably get some calls but just keep saying you can't afford any more than your token payment (presumably the usual £1) and the CCCS are dealing with it. They'll ease off, you'll see.

I was paying bits and pieces off from mid 90's until I had to leave the Army in 2001 and then I made payments here and there ... I was so ill that I did leave it and just got all the letters, I did try to speak to the collections people on a number of occasions and got abuse down the phone even though I was ill.

All my creditors have been written to and hardly anyone replies and when you speak to them they just say "when are you paying"

I have made massive efforts to write to them with an Income/Expenditure and Medical supporting letters about my illness etc etc and they do not even respond ...

All my debts are High street banks and a store card and I have had no new debt since 2000 ...

This is not really my area, but someone else will know. Is it possible that some of this debt might be statute barred? I know that letters have been written, but it does rather depend what they said.

See this thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=431351 for an example of how some DCA seem to be chasing old debts that are statute barrred

I thought you might already have tried that option, but thought I'd put it just in case.

Another option if the CAB can't help you any more is your local council. I know that my council offer debt advice and it may well be that yours do to. I see from your location details that you live in Leeds.

This is the link for the Leeds City Council debt advice page: http://www.leeds.gov.uk/Advice_and_benefits/Legal_advice/Debt_counselling/page.aspx

You'll see that they have details of people who may be able to help - worth a look?

You will also find that a law centre can give you some free legal advice. There are details here: http://www.leeds.gov.uk/Advice_and_benefits/Legal_advice/page.aspx

I'll give it a bit more thought and post back if I think of anything else.

Thats very helpful as thats one place that I havent been

    Thank you:T

    Hi S1BDN!

Don't know if you've contacted all the organisations here http://www.fvf.org.uk/gettinghelp.html.

I know it's not 'your' war (and probably not your branch of the Services!) but it's a local (to me) organisation that helps PTSD sufferers, they may be able to assist as well as CCCS etc.

Don't let the bu&&ers grind you down!
