Do you know what the debt is for? I would just reply by writing and say you do not acknowledge the debt. Someone clever will post a link in a bit. TTFN, Kaz

If the debt is unsecured, this is about as legitimate as someone selling you the broklyn bridge.

Scan the letter (both sides) remove personal details & post it here.

Type it out then. In particular, I need to know if the letter says anything about what court you can appeal to have it overturned at.

Was this letter sent in the post? Are you sure you last paid the debt 7 years ago?

Righty ho then. With regard to the other debts and your mortgage and asking if you should go bankrupt. Go to the sticky at the top of this forum and work out your soa.
You need incomings outgoings aprs and monthly/ yearly bills.
Your income looks quite reasonable to me so you ought to be able to get out of this without going bankrupt but we need to see a bigger picture.
Start a new thread for your soa and title it toplass5 SOA. Then you can keep it separate from this problem and it won't be so confusing for you to read back.
You may find it easier to start a debt diary a lot of others have done.
