Congratulations Lippy!!! :j (I hope you are not my sister who was given that nickname a few years back. I will be raging if you told a whole forum before you told me, haha!)

    I completely agree with this:

The only things I have ever bought new are a car seat, a cot mattress and nappies...everything else comes from friends or Freecycle - bags of clothes, toys, you name it.

It doesn't matter if your Moses basket/cot is new, 2nd hand, 3rd hand or freecycle, as long as the mattress is new. I remember this being very important 12 years ago :o Also, the car seat is something to do with you not knowing if it has been involved in an accident so best to buy new. Everything else, take what anyone is willing to give you and remember to ask for stuff too!

On topic, 74p to savings yesterday

    Good work everyone ;)

  • Congrats lippy, that's fantastic news!! Expected or not? Either way, happy for you! Got plasterer and decoraters in house in next few weeks and then garage roof being replaced...so hopefully still manage to finish this month with £4,000 savings! Then with that paid for, wont have much extra to pay for next month so will be able to *fingers crossed* get upto £6,000. £20,000 seems a long way off but I'v saved £4,000 already this year which at 21 and just bought a house in December 2012....think I need to relax and smile more!

Thank you all for the lovely messages :)

No it wasn't expected but somehow it managed to get past the birth control defences :o
Thanks for the advice. I didn't even think about freecycle! Or a sling lol. Good ideas. You have all made it a little less scary financially already.
No idea if I'm team blue or team pink. OH wants a boy though, so he has been googling ways to influence this :rotfl:

Payday tomorrow. Hopefully I can put a good chunk away and keep on track.

Youngbusinessman- £20k is a massive goal but I believe you can do it. You are doing so well already.

Keep up the good work everyone x

    Pay day :j
Another nice suprise, since the tax codes have changed I am now about £100 better off per month and that's before my payrise kicks in. Very pleased about that.

April savings is £450 so far, with hopefully another few £££ to add before the end of the month.

Have a great day guys x

Just want to add my congratulations Lippy that is such wonderful news. :j

I've been a busy girl when it comes to finances!

Opened a regular saver with First Direct yesterday and threw £100 in there. Also opened up their E-Saver and put a pound in to avoid the £10 monthly charge. Then completed my ISA application with The Coventry and sent off £10 and sorted out standing orders from Halifax to First Direct.

Have a fab day everyone. I'm waiting to hear about a friend who is having her baby today. So excited for them :T
Pay off all your debts by Christmas 2025 no. 15 £0/6949
  • Cydney, watch you don't lose that £100 if you are throwing it about ;) well done on finance front seems like you are making progress. £20k seems a step too far considering we are renovating our whole house. Aslong as I complete the £12k this challenges benchmark is I will be more than happy. Anymore is just a bonus. With renovating we are getting it out the way so next year can just save like mad. Paying off cc this month so if savings is over £4,000(with next months bills paid) I will be delighted, anything over that will just be a major boost!

  • And I mean next months bills paid as just opened joint account and will be adding in to it to cover next months bills before it comes round. So next month outgoings will be paid for as of the first!
