Line not going to be activated for 8 weeks

I signed up to Sky as I'm moving home at the weekend.
I signed up to TV, Broadband and Phone line.
The engineer is coming next week to install the box etc.
Then I got an email from Sky saying the line wouldn't be activated until 23 January (8 weeks).
I rang their customer services (as advised) and was told that it couldn't be earlier, that Openreach were responsible and they did the lines for everyone except Virgin.
They didn't think that being without phone or broadband for 8 weeks was a problem and said there was nothing they could do.
Is anyone else experiencing the same length of delays?

Sounds like a lot of folks are signing up for Sky TV and Broadband before Xmas and BT OR can't cope with the demand.That gum you like is coming back in style.0
