SAAB 9000 with over 180,000 on the clock. The last MoT I put it through, it passed only needing one headlight bulb to be replaced.

I clocked up almost 50,000 miles per annum in the 3 years I owned my SAAB. In that time, apart from normal servicing, it only ever needed one ignition cassette and clutch bearing - I paid for a new clutch at 64,000 miles at the same time the clutch bearing was being replaced.

Volvo S70, bought it with 80k miles on, finally got rid of it (it was a sad day) with 275k miles on.

Engine and gearbox (auto) were faultless - although in fairness, it had regular services, and frequent oil changes, and I changed the ATF a couple of times whilst owning it.

Bodywork was fine, too - it had sustained some minor suspension damage that had been repaird, but I was constantly chasing minor issues with suspension alignment and tyre wear, plus foibles with the ABS since it had the rear suspension beam replaced.

The way the engine and gearbox behaved, had it not been for the other issues, I wouldn't have worried about them for another 100k miles, perhaps 200k.

An old Mercedes S class, sold it with 220,000 miles.
  • Probably my current one, a Focus 1.8 diesel estate, which is on about 235,000 miles.

180k on an old rover - would have gone on much longer too if some idiot hadn't crashed into it whilst I was sitting at a traffic light. :(
  • Had a 1990 Mk2 Golf GTI with 188K on it... a 1990 B3 Passat PB Digifant estate with 202K... Berlingo 1.9D van on 282K and a Range Rover 3.9 Vogue on 205K.
  • 165k on my Honda Accord 2.2 Vtec - best car I ever owned, used to run from Milton Keynes To Switzerland without missing a beat. Had just had a new clutch when it was written off by an uninsured driver
