I have only ever used the paypal address as that is where I need seller protection.

I understand and have been corrected by regulars that the ebay and paypal address cannot differ, but I am still getting addresses that do not match so either my ebay is broken or this is yet *another* ebay glitch.

My eBay and paypal addresses are different. My paypal address is my home address, but my 'official' eBay address is that of my workplace of some years back, when I first created my eBay account.

Going back to the days when Paypal and eBay were separate entities, and maybe a year after joining eBay, I encountered what I can only describe as a lunatic of the first order (the "I'm comin' 'round your 'ouse" type) and given the nature of my then employer, I looked forward to his arrival at my eBay registered 'address'! :D

As a buyer I expect sellers to send to my paypal address. When I pay I have the option to choose which address I want an item sent to - home, work, parents, hotel in the middle of nowhere, friend as a present... I see this as the point of paypall asking where it should be posted. A couple of times sellers have sent to my ebay address when I wanted it elsewhere and it is a pain - it may be covered by seller's protection but is certainly bad communication by not lpaying attention to what the buyer requests.

If buying on eBay you should expect your order to be posted to address shown, twice, during eBay Checkout which is why eBay's system should automatically link to Paypal put said address on the PP transaction page as well.

I've never looked at Paypal for an address, data is exported from eBay's Selling Manager and I don't have time to mess about checking 300 orders a day to see if there are two different addresses on each order, it's bad enough trying to just one complete address out of some people, let along messing around with two.

That is the address I mean (I think you are right in that I am wrong to think of it as the paypal address). I believe a 'main ebay' address over which I have no choice gets sent to the seller as soon as the auction ends - and it is a pain if that one is used when I request a different one.

They must be able to differ, my Paypal address is my actual address but if I buy something for a family member I can switch between addresses in eBay so it goes straight to them rather than to me.

This has happened to me a few years back. The buyer had recently moved and changed his address but the old address was given to me though ebay. Follow up checks showed the new address. It may take time for the system to update addresses
If this is the first sale from you to this buyer, the only way you would have their old address is through ebay or paypal which makes it a system or buyer fault. Not yours.

This is what happens for me. My ebay address is my home address, my paypal one though depends on which of my sons has asked me to pay for something and have it sent to them.

I checked one of mine when I was told the two address always match and my paypal clearly showed the uni address and my ebay my home address.

I also have things sent direct to my mother and so far everything has gone to the right place.

I had a similar problem recently.

I sent an item to the 'official' Paypal address of the buyer, but he moved. Unfortunately he had not updated his Paypal address.

I actually contacted Paypal who said I was totally in the right.

Since then, I now add the following to all my listings. I only ship to the official PayPal address. If you have recently moved please make sure you have updated your Paypal records.
  • Thanks for all your replies. Just to let you know that eBay found in favour of me the seller. The buyer was insistent that it was entirely my responsibility and sent some pretty start messages. Not a nice buyer, so pleased found in my favour. I'll be sure to check for paypal address in future but it is pretty annoying as use the eBay app on iPhone to manage my selling. Oh well better to be sure.

Grateful that she'd asked for RD as otherwise I doubt I'd have got the result. Do other buyers sell RD as standard or would receipt of postage be enough?

To have full seller protection against an INR you would need tracking to the point of delivery- so proof of posting is not enough.

However, tracking is far too expensive for most items as only special delibery or couriers have tracking. If you risk recorded it is not always helpful as in many areas it does not ever update past the 'in the system' message so would not defend an INR.

You were lucky your recorded proved delivery, I have not had a recorded update now for as long as I can remember
