Okay folks
I have recently been stung (and only luckly managed to get out) of a contract I signed on the same night of the visit by a window salesman.
I thought I was a little bit savy about sales reps and their techniques, but all the prep in the world will still make you suspectable to their techniques.
So what have I learnt:
a) read ALL the small print, every single "B" word, don't just rely on what they say in the interview/appointment
b) if you negogiate a single price for various items = make sure its on ONE contract, which can make it easier to get out of it if need be
c) the more they push, the greater you DECLINE
d) and NEVER accept the price on their 1st visit - make them work very hard for their commission! Could even make it 3 visits, and if they want your business, they will come back
e) by getting them to visit a 2nd time, it will give you time to pop on here and ask about the company / deal e.g. Is the company that boasts they are "Secure by Design", ACTUALLY, on their membership list (another window sales rep).
Now these tips can apply to any sales rep, whether it be for windows, finance, building works. It works for EVERYTHING.
Please read and remember them, coz if I can get caught out, SO CAN YOU!!

Isn't the law such that if you sign a contract as a result of a cold call, you have a certain number of days to cancel the contract?
Personally I'd never buy anything from a cold caller. My elderly neighbour is a hoot. When someone cold calls him, he asks them if they can read. When they say yes, he points out the notice next to his door saying "No cold callers". He then gives them an earful. A charity worker knocked on my door. I signed up, I'm a soft touch for a good local charity, but I warned him about my neighbour. Sure enough, 5 minutes later I heard shouting, and across the road was a stunned charity worker standing in front of my neighbours door, with a mortified look on his face, being shouted at by my neighbour. Far more entertaining than TV.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
This was not a cold caller, but something what was appointment arranged.
They smooth, smooth as butter.
Which I suppose should be a warning sign0 -
Why would a salesman be in your home? If I found one in mine I would call the police because he must have broken in.0

i would never deal with any company that offers a starting price and then can knock £1000s off to make you sign , i just want the best price and nothing more,so if anyone is daft enough to deal with the big national co's who do the hard sell stuff , then give/tell them that you're only going to give them one chance to give you their best price , they then have the option of giving you a reasonable price and take a chance that you'll be happy with it , rather than having them in your house for 10 hours going thru the charade of "i'll just ring my manager to see if he can offer you a better deal "0

My windows started at £17k before discount. Then after discount for blah blah blah.........and a bit more blah it dropped down to £5k. I must be really special to be offered such a discount!:rotfl:
Next person who came round who product I actually liked I told that if he could do £4.5k he could have the contract. Saved approximately 2 hours of my day! Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0 -
Remember - the deals that are 'only available today' are available any time you tell them!0

Damn, I think I must have missed out on a deal!
In all honesty, the guy I did give the contract to in the end was the area sales manager who was providing illness cover rather than a sales rep. He came down and gave me an honest price straight off........and then I told him what his price was going to be and he agreedSome people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0 -
