Your puss may well have had a stroke, one of our cats had a stroke a few years ago the day after his brother was put to sleep, this paralised his back legs. We kept him going for a few weeks afterwards but cmae down one morning and he'd had a heart attack during the night and had passed away.
Strokes and heart problems are quite common in cats.

That must have been such a shock . We've had 14 cats through the years but never had one suffer like that . Poor cat. Very sorry to read of your loss .0

I had a wonderful cat, about 7 years ago, he was 3 when we adopted him from RSPCA and we'd had him two years and the same thing happened.
We were told it was either a stroke or a blood clot in the spinal cord. He had no hope of withstanding either.
Once again, I'm so sad and sorry for your loss0
