Course funding

All, hopefully this is in the right area, but its not really my bag so If im in the wrong place, please advise...
I have a friend who is out of work and wants to a particular training course to give significantly better job prospects. The course costs around £500 to do the 4 day course, but money is tight. Can funding be sought via organisations like job centre plus / local authorities benefits office?
Thanks in advance.

Ahh the ubiquitious friend eh ?
Certainly if your friend is on JSA and not on WP then he / she can apply for LVP - Low Value Procurement.
Course has to be short / sharp / intensive - the longer the course is the more likely it is that it will not be agreed - 1 day, 1 week yes -6 mths duration almost certainly not.
It will have to be linked to existing skills / quals - not applicable for 'retraining'.
Just needs to provide the basic info - name of course, example training provider and location and contact details, cost etc.
JCP staff complete form, has to be agreed by JCP Mgr and then up to another Procurement Dept where, I think, bid is put out to tender.
Not a quick process - turnaround about 6 weeks min0 -
How are you supposed to retrain if you don't get any help?0

A friend on mine wanted to work in security, she had been claiming JSA whilst looking for work etc.
A guy agreed to employ her but she needed to do the course first.
She had to show the letter from him explaining there was a time limit on his offer, they checked that. Then she had to have X amount of meetings, get quotes for the course at different establishments and they finally paid the course for her about 5 months after she first asked about it. She 100% had to have the offer of a job in order to get the course paid for but it appears they may be some discretion in this depending on the manager and area.
Might be worth noting she was 19 and been out of work for over 6 months but I do NOT know if this made a difference. She also lives with a foster parent but shes never claimed anything because of coming from care and I doubt this changed anything with JSA course rules.0 -

Yes. They're in a difficult situation and didn't feel comfortable signing up and asking the question, and they have been reading this thread. Your comment could be interpreted in different ways, so on the chance that you're questioning the honesty of my post, please keep your opinions to yourself as on this occasion, they have caused offence. thanks.
For the other responders, the course is a 4 day City & Guilds 2382 course, available at many local colleges. It involves 3 days learning and an open book exam. It will compliment their already gained qualifications and in theory give hem a significantly better chance of securing work.To have integrity means that you don't agree with everyone you meet, nor do you succumb to pressure to be something that is in direct conflict with your core ethics.0 -
