VERY strong dog bed wanted

Does he chew his bed during the day at all? If not, this would seem to be more of a behavioural issue and you ideally need to address his reason for chewing. It could be a form of separation anxiety, triggered by being left alone in a different room overnight. My lurcher will quite happily be left alone for 4 hours without any problem, but if he knows we're still in the house, he sings very loudly and can become destructive until he's with us again

My friend's lab caused about £14,000 worth of damage to the kitchen and car when she suddenly developed the urge to chew again aged 14 months old :eek: It lasted until she was almost 2
Hope you find a solution for you both.

I wouldn't have anything less than a Tuffie.
I haven't tried the "The Real Tough Tuffie" we use the wipe clean.
If I was in your your shoes I would persevere with old blankets and the like, he should grow out of it.
Time to up his exercise then he will be too knackered to chew

I know it might seem a bit cruel / uncomfortable....but why don't you try one of the hard plastic beds with no bedding in for now until he "hopefully" grows out of it?

We've used these - I actually have an XL one that Ben used when he first arrived in the garage (keep meaning to put it on e*bay but it's sitting on top of the TD full of stuff!) .... If you're anywhere near Edinburgh PM me:)
We've also used bread crates from the SM with the front bar removed - Maisie has her bed in the car in one of these and DMs dog has her house bed in one. ETA they both have a single duvet in them!
Maybe ask at the SM if they'll let you have one .... (or you do sometimes see them lying around on streets
)
Ours have a few chew marks on them!
I def agree you need to remove the soft bedding in case he eats it but the only thing I'd be worried about is what he'll chew instead - as he will find something.:eek:
All our labs have gone through a chewing phase (varying ages from around 10 months & degrees of destruction) - the kitchen table legs were a particular favourite as it's pine so fairly soft!:eek:Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
£1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!0 -
I have a Lab, she was a chewer. Not as much- it tends to grow out as they age- usually! Best option I found was a bit of carpet, she doesn't seem to like the feel of it in her jaw....0
