The Original Post seems to show signs of being a wind-up, certainly with the "only" in front of 5 tb (or TB)...
5 TB a month would require a truly serious amount of disk space.
And 5 TB a month represents an average of rather more than 2 MB / second...0 -
At 5TB a month... what kind of connection /service plan are you on? Just be glad that they sent you a letter in the first place! In response to your question, yes they will throttle your download (and most times your upload) speeds.
Depending on the type of service that you have chosen, you may be reduced drastically, or you may receive further notification that you will be charged for the excess use. Regardless of how fair the "fair-usage" act is, if you aren't throttled down soon, expect to be. I can save how much?!0 -
So many Linux builds ... so little time!0

Actual advice, dump Virgin and go for Sky or someone else that does propper unlimited not fair usage. The speeds are slower on average but as far as I can tell, it's actually unlimited. I've never been throttled by them unlike when I was with virgin and after an afternoon of HD Youtube my internet was worthless until the next day.0 -
Hang on, I don't want Teradownload man on Sky, he will slow it down for the rest of us.
Stay with Weirdy Beardy Tery.:rotfl:That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
If you are truly downloading 5tbs the first thing i would say is be very careful. I am not sure how long you have been doing this but I cannot see that all your content can be legal and you must be on the radar. Secondly I had the same a few years ago (not as bad as that though) and they gradually started to reduce my speeds at all times of day until i went (back then) from 4mb to 0.4mb speeds. I would say cut down your activity... How are you even able to use the content you download. It would be like watching 3 different films all at the same time constantly for the whole month 24/7.. Crazy..0
