Recently received a letter from virgin. Saying we need to cut down on our internet usage. it didn't threaten any action just said please essentially.
have they been known to do anything apart from throttle speeds at peak hours. current usage is only about 5tbs a month nothing to extreme.

Regardless that is serious usage ... I wouldn't hit 5TB in a YEAR! Probably not even 2TB.0 -

HOW MUCH !!!!!
Virgin do have a fair use policy despite being unlimited. If they feel your use is excessive, which they do and it is, then this is the result.
Ultimately if you dont, then may impliment blocks on your useage lower than you could get away with by self reducing. OR they may put you on a different plan where you have to pay for useage after a certain ammount.
This letter is the first stage - but if you dont do as they ask they can take it further.
5TB - Jesus, your not on a buisiness contract

Never mind how much porno you could watch with that amount, I'd be knackered trying :rotfl:0

That's an insane amount of transfer!0

That's like the equivalent of 15Mbps constant stream 24h/day all month - are you sure you're using 5TB transfer a month? Is anyone sharing your connection (maybe wifi unencrypted?) as it is really really hard to use that much data. Frankly I'm surprised Virgin are being nice about it, you must be absolutely slamming the system for other users0

where are you storing all this Data, How much storage do you have.
I class myself as a heavy user but probably average 5Gb daily.
Either take heed of their warning or risk them cutting your service down, I think their fair usage policy is typically unfair, they have over subscribed so much that they throttle after a small amount of download and traffic shape the rest.0
