Seller says no paypal funds for refund

Well sent the photos and seller has refunded today confirmed by PP thanks to her daughter funding her paypal account apparently so all good there.

Now the seller has asked for me to agree to cancel the transaction so she can avoid her fees...this seller has gone from getting a big neg, to a considered neutral, back to a big neg.

I think most sellers will try and salvage what they can from this disaster, he has already almost certainly lost money for his goods and has lost the postage money- recovering fees is not a bad thing to do and costs you nothing.

I do not leave poor feedback for damaged goods unless I think the seller was either pulling a fast one, intimated in anyway that I was lying or refused to refund.

You have a refund, your item has not had to be returned and I think a neg would be extremely harsh here.

Thanks, the voice of reason that is what I need.
Im not sure getting the fees back is a good thing, had the seller packed the item well there would be no problem and athough I dont always agree with the way ebay and paypal operate I dont see why they should not be paid for the service they have supplied.
I will not leave a neg but probably a neutral as the seller has a couple of negs already but am torn on the fee issue.
Tell me is it fair to ask me to be dishonest by cancelling the transaction, sorry but I feel it s a bad thing to do and if I do then it is not done with any malice towards the seller.

I think the seller has been helpful in the event of a problem, including making an effort to get funds into her Paypal account to refund you. I don't think that you should refuse the cancellation at all - they deserve some credit and that is just what people do in the event of a problem being resolved. I think the fact that they had to refund might make them think a bit better about their packaging - money does talk very loudly and losing both money and item will make them think.

I know you are disappointed with the item, but you could e.g. leave a neutral 'Item arrived broken, poorly packed but seller was helpful' - but I would actually leave a pos, mark 2 or 3 for item description, 5 for comms, and whatever you feel about dispatch and P&P. I would only leave non-positive feedback if I was forced to go to a dispute. Otherwise I will use the DSRs to express mild disappointment.

But it's up to you, I guess.

It will encourage her to deal like this with other problems she encounters. It's not that I think she would be justified in being angry at buyers, as you are right in some respects that she should not have packaged the item poorly in the first place, but if she makes that kind of effort and is not rewarded, she might not feel it's even worth bothering next time.

Exactly on what basis would you justify a neutral? You can't leave poor feed back just because they already 'have a few'

  • Sorry I thought a neutral was just that!
I have considered a factual positive on account of the refund (thanks crowqueen) my comment was not because of anything other than based on the facts a netural due to poor packing and messing about with the refund, you know I have now got to spend my time sourcing and bidding for another its not just the refund and broken item here!
I appreciate the comments from the sellers but would like to get a buyers opinion, but no comments on the honesty of cancelling the transaction I see?

Come off it! You have lost nothing. However, in contrast, the seller has lost:
    • The value of the item
    • The value of the shipping

In addition, you are seeking to cost them:
    • The value of their eBay selling fees.
    • And damage their account with a negative feedback.
    • And no doubt damaging DSRs.

I'd say that sort of conduct was pretty malicious.

Not having much joy with sellers at the moment

I note from another thread on MSE that recently, eBay have begun taking remedial action against those buyers who are bouncing from seller to seller, inflicting damage.

  • I would only decline it if the seller had been unreasonable but as this seller did the right thing and refunded you without you returning the item or forcing you to go to dispute then I think its fair to accept the cancellation request.
With regard to feedback I personally wouldn't leave any, but if I had to then it would prob be a positive and I would ding the stars on description.

  • I am a buyer and private seller. I would leave no feedback at all as I feel a neutral or neg is unjust but would not call it a positive transaction to leave pos feedback (unless the seller had been really apologetic etc).

There is nothing dishonest in either asking for or accepting the cancellation, there would be if the sale had taken place off ebay or item collected in person and they were trying to cancel but not in this situation.

I think you are taking your frustration out that you say you have had a few problems with other sellers and so are getting unjustly upset with this one whereas if you looked at it objectively as a one off you may have felt differently.
