What happens if the dealer goes bust or changes hands.

Surely its better to just save the money in an interest paying account each month/yearly
I took a gamble on a company like Birchwood/Kia being able to live up to expectation, anyway the service agreement is with Kia so should be safe enough.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

I have had two new Kia's and warranty was never an issue, its largely down to how helpful the dealership is and that applies to all brands. Kia Warwick looked after the cars in a knowledgeable way and flagged things a couple of times I wasn't even aware of them sorted free under Kia warranty.

As to the op's car it seems a long time without a service but it would be crazy having it done at 5000 miles only even if the book says so.

Perhaps the query on warranty status should be with KIA UK?

Jake - if you have any written proof that there was balance of manufacturer's warranty, then send that and the details on to Kia and get confirmation that they will honour the warranty.

If they say no, then the garage has either to refund you your money or you take them to court.

Tell them that is what you intend to do and that maybe things should be on hold till you get the written confirmation from Kia.

The potential costs to them could be high if all your paperwork is in order and they don't get Kia's agreement, so, if I were them, I would refund you your deposit and call the deal off.
