Kia Warranty Problem
Hi I'm hoping somebody will be able to help me with advice regards a Kia Rio.
On Sunday I put a deposit on a Kia car at a car supermarket type place, under the belief that it had 5 1/2 years warranty remaining on it.
It was registered in May 2011.
The garage told me it had the remainder of the warranty and at some point during our time with the sales man he made a brief comment that they had serviced the car. I never thought much about this until this morning when I thought why would they service is at 18 months when it will have had a service at 1 year to keep the warranty valid.
I phoned them and they told me that although it hadn't been serviced until Sept 12 instead of May 12 it was ok as we would still have a discretionary warranty.
My garage have told me to be very careful as they have experience of people who have left their services late and then have had warranty declared void.
I want to ask for my deposit back as I don't want a car that I can't be certain will be covered by warranty but am I entitled to it back?

Even if it was under warranty i would not want it.
No service for 18 months..:eek::eek::eek::eek:
Either the previous owner thought it not worth servicing or its been a troublesome car and chucked through the system?
Mileage?
Or its been sitting on forecourts for some time? Any accident damage?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
check out the numerous kia forums, join and post your concerns.
Kia are not great at sorting warranty work at the best of times
If what they told you about the warranty isnt true then IMO you are entitled to deposit back, getting it may not be easy though, ask them0 -
My friend's second year service was over by 2 months and he's having an awful time with his warranty.
IMO, it seems you can only ever rely on the manufacturer's standard 3-year warranty and that's it. I've also heard stories of Vauxhall's lifetime warranty being fairly useless too...0 -
I've paid up front for my servicing for the next 5 yrs, I know they have my money but prices can only go up.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

If that is true, it is surprising that "Which" rates them so highly...

How did you pay the deposit?
hopefully by Credit Card .... if so ask politely and if not tell them you will go through the CC company and section 75?0 -
I would never pay for servicing etc up front.
My mum bought a car. MOT for life etc. Queried it doesnt need one yet. Thats OK when it does need them it will be free.
1st MOT all fine. No charge. Booked it in for the 2nd year.
When she turned up they said oh sorry the dealership have changed names and the MOT for life is no longer valid.
She could see the guy that sold them the car called him over.
All they could offer was half price MOT.
Same staff, Same signs everywhere. Just a new name over the door.
They lost a customer, She has not been back since.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Thankyou for all you replies.
Steve L unfortunately I paid over the telephone on a mastercard debit card- but I don't know whether that fact that I was not made aware that it was a non refundable deposit makes a difference.
The company state that they record all calls so could prove if they had told me this.
I haven't signed anything at all.
Forgot my name - the mileage is low at just under 5000, and I know the car has been with this car supermarket at least since September.0 -

What happens if the dealer goes bust or changes hands.
Surely its better to just save the money in an interest paying account each month/yearly0 -

you only have to read the kia forums for real life experiences.
form that report
Which? said in its summary: "KIA's new Rio, Sorento and Picanto have all impressed in our Test Lab, while the new cee'd and Optima get the thumbs-up from our initial road tests. Compared to where KIA was just five years ago, we feel that KIA is the most improved car brand around."
so they impressed in a lab and on a few road tests and they are improved from where they are 5 years ago, no mention of long term reliability and or warranty issues0
