Just trawling through old posts to see how a quote we've just had compares.
Sounds very similar to OP here, hall, stairs and landing in a 4 bed, including all woodwork - £850. Paint and materials are included.

Think I need to move my decorating company down south with some of those prices!! - without seeing it tbh its hard to price, normally looking at 5-6 days for average 4 bed house inc all woodwork (thats assuming spindles and approx 8-10 doors)
so about right! - Dont go for cheapest soley on price, look at previous works, google company, see if they are on Trader register (Trading Standards)

My advice for this question is not to ask for pricing advice in this way! At the least, show photos of the space to give a better idea of what is involved.

For general decorating work of this kind, call in 3 reputable companies and ask the experts to look at the work in person, and tell you what the job is currently worth! It may be that your budget is inadequate for the amount of work you want doing, or you may get high prices from merchants who price the work based on the car on the drive. So many variables when all you want is consistency!

Before you call around for quotes, though, I would say you need to clarify your expectations first in terms of the quality of finish you expect, and then find decorators who say they fit the bill. eg

Do you want super smooth flawless work with sanded walls between coats, or a tidy job, or "make it look clean". That will sort out the calibre of company you want working in your house.

And listen out for their suggestions to check whether or not they are the company for you. If they say they are high end, ask them what sort of dustless sanding they use. (If they are working cheap and the old way, are you OK with a house full of dust and paying for decorators to clean your house instead of filling, sanding and painting in a clean environment?) Do they spray spindles?

I see you are supplying paint, but do they make a big deal of the cost of materials rather than focus on the quality? (Compared to labour costs, materials are small potatoes, and there is so little difference in the overall costs of premium acrylic wall paint or oldy worldy emulsion or contract vinyl matt, yet a world of difference in performance and aesthetic.

The primary, but trickiest aim is to achieve value for money for both parties. The worst case for you as a client is to pay top dollar and get rubbish work. For a decorator the worst case is to lose money doing a fab job for you. Somewhere in the middle would be nice. So set your standard out, then call suitable candidates in and try weed them out.
It is no fun getting part way through the decorating and you don't know the next step.
