My DD was looking at a KF HD but eventually went for the Nexus 7 which is much better IMO. It is open rather than Amazonfied.
Kindles tend to be very much fixed in price."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

If anyone reads this and wonders what grizzly is on about, basically the Kindles are tied to amazon eg amazon apps, e books from amazson etc whereas the Nexus 7 isnt tied to amazon well it is tied to the Google Play Store for the apps but you can download e books from other sites (I presume other sites provide e books like amazon do) apart from amazon.
OP if you go for a nexus 7 check out HUKD for cheapest sites/stores to get 1 from.0 -

I think that was the basic one not the HD."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

I believe that the kindle is unfortunately tied to amazon online store.. they basically designed their own e-book reader, so im pretty you can only but it there... But its still priced competitively tho ; )0 -
I'd really recommend the Nexus 7 instead - from playing with the Kindle HD, it feels a lot more plasticy and bulky, the layout is very much Amazon and nothing else and I believe you can't access the Google app market with it, which restricts what you can download.
The Nexus 7 is going for £159 now so it really is the better option0 -

Nexus 7 over Kindle fire all day, everyday and twice on Sundays.
There pretty much the same price - but the Nexus is higher spec'd and not tied in.
The basic Kindle fire is OK, due to the price - Tescos are selling them at £99 as well. Its not much more than the basic 6" ebook kindle, though you get a shiny backlit screen not the real ink type (which is much better for actually reading books) and nowhere near as much better time. If you want a basic app based tab though at that price point, its decent.0 -
Waterstones were selling them discounted the other day, you can also buy books for the kindles from waterstones online, and if you go into the waterstones stores the wifi is free to use
You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0
