re. choice of first Smartphone
Options
I currently have a Nokia C3 on a contract with Virgin which lasts until next July. It wasn't the best choice. I wanted to have internet access but the screen is too small and I have hardly used the internet service because of that.
If I were to buy a budget smartphone eg. Sony Xperia U Sim Free Smartphone - Black which has good reviews on Amazon, would i be able to use the SIM card from my current phone and so continue with my current contract? Or does SIM free mean that it doesn't use a sim card.
I am currently a light user but might use it more if the internet access were better.

Yes you can use your current SIM in it. SIM free, just means unlocked / unbranded
and sold with no sim.
But you don't have to buy one that says sim free, a lot of phone shops sell
unbranded / unlocked handsets.
Carphonewarehouse sells that phone for £129.99 plus £10 topup, so a tenner
cheaper than amazon, even including the mandatory topup, if you know someone
with an active payg SIM, you can even buy it as a 'payg upgrade' without the topup.
