it is reported that Mark worked with Goldman Sachs advising Russian on it's Financial crisis in the 90s; that was while Goldman was betting that Russia wouldn't be able to pay it's debts.
Mark wouldn't have known about that of course...

I prefer the fact that no Canadian bank required assistance during the 2008 crash. Says a lot for the Canadian regulatory framework.

Whereas any British banker comes somewhat tainted. As many knew the risks that were being taken.

I am more concerned that a great number of our bankers did NOT know the risks that were being taken.

Anyway it seems absurb that there is no UK national suitably qualified.
  • David Blanchflower is elated with the appointed. I'm guessing that means continued low rates, more QE and more housing market support.

I wonder what the inflation target will be under his watch?

Will he have lots of letters to write?

Seems Canada managed to keep it tighter, not sure whether that is because underlying commodity prices didn't have so much of an effect oil/gas etc.

Now Mr Carney's package of £624,000 is more than double Sir Mervyn King's salary of £305,000.

Is there a valid reason for such a large amount?

    Excellent news.

  • Sounds like a good guy and a good choice.

I would like to hear in his first public speech to the UK people something like this...

It is to compensate for the difference in the pension scheme between him and Mervyn King
