I did some reverse engineering of the data that the software sends out when I had a copy of the AQA package. It seems to send packets over a standard web connection, if I remember correctly, but it sends a lot of small packets; the only thing I can think of is that your router is throttling traffic of that nature.

Perhaps check your router's settings, see if you can modify the firewall somewhat?
