Cancelling Sky

Options
Hi,

My Sky subscription (TV, Broadband, Phone) is going to end in 3 days, reason being is that i want to keep the costs down.

I understand this will automatically changing to SATVIEW where i get a load of free channels however does anyone have a list of the free channels i could be getting?

Also i am looking to still retain SKY+ HD so that i can still record but been told need to pay £10.25 to still retain this and locked down to a 12 months contract for this peice only.

Just want to know the full list of channels i could be getting to see if its still worthwhile retaining SKY+HD only.

Take your card out and see what channels you can still view (BTW, it'll be Freesat from Sky, not Satview).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

you can buy a freesat such as a Humax PRV and record for free, the only cost is buying the box, the channels on both are near enough the same, as said above, if you take out your card you will see what channels you can access if you cancel.

    Here's the full list

Ignore the costs in the link, your current viewing card will get you all these channels when your cancellation is finalised.

I agree with those who suggest buying a Freesat PVR over paying Sky £10.25 a month (£123 a year).

Silly question but you have cancelled the contract with sky? As it will not automatically turn off when the contract is up.

Good point. And don't forget the 31 days notice required.

  • Hi,

I cancelled last month so gave them the 31 days notice so officially will be cancelled tomorrow unless i decide to only leave the Sky HD record facility only.

Bit surprised that you did not receive any "let me see what i can do for you" calls. (I got three times during the notice period).

  • If you take your card out, that is pretty much what you can get if you pay for the record feature.

You are honestly better off getting a Freesat HD Recorder - it does the same as Sky and will pay for itself in just over a year.

Depending on how new your TV is, it might have built in record features by simply plugging a hard drive into the back of it. Obviously this is either Freeview or Freesat depending on your TV.
