Pilot light problem

The pilot light on my old Baxi boiler keeps going out. For the last few weeks I was having to relight the pilot light every time i wanted to put the heating/hotwater on and it was fine, but now it just goes out as soon as I try to light it.

Whats wrong with it and how much could it cost to fix it? (im really skint :( )

Based on the very limited information my best guess is a thermocouple or a blocked pilot jet possibly.

Neither are massively expensive but they aren't DIY jobs anymore.

Model of boiler would have helped :-)

I had mine repaired this time last year for the same problem, the pilot light and thermocouple was replaced along with a service, total cost £140
  • Hi thanks for the replies and appologies for lack of info.

I had an engineer out last night and he said there wasnt anything wrong with the boiler itself but that i should flush my system because the water was quite dirty and it might be this that is causing a blockage somewhere. Does this sound about right? He says i can do this myself using a chemical cleaner, what would be the best stuff to use?

The pilot light not staying on caused by dirty water???

No doesn't sound right at all!

A 'power Flush' to clear system is an expensive job.

As above, sounds like one of three things.

Thermocouple, blocked pilot injector, or at a push, a faulty gas valve. All jobs for an RGI.

I would charge £75 + VAT to change the thermocouple, inc part.
  • Thanks again for the replies. Feel a bit of a numpty when it comes to boilers etc. Ive just called the company in question to sort out my bill and they've said it was free as it was just advice they gave me.

Think I'll leave it a couple of days as my boiler seems to be working for now but i'll probably phone someone else i think.

    thanks x
