Just coming to the end of a relationship with Orange.

I dont need a new handset and they've ditched my 'loyality' discount meaning my monthly charges have risen from around £13 to £21

Hence I'm now preparing to unlock the Orange BB 8520 (£0.99 via ebay) and looking to switch to a three SIM card at £6-90 which easily covers my monthly usage.

I'll need to transfer my current mobile number too (is this free?)

But can someone tell me if there are any discount or money back websites please? I've checked avios (but not nectar yet).

Hopefully I've not missed anything else?
Cheers as always

Are you 100% certain your handset has 3G??

I had an 8520 curve a couple of years ago and that isnt 3G capable (it uses EDGE etc for internet)...so wouldnt work on three's network

I'm never 100% sure of anything!!

So the next question is - how do I check to see if it has 3G?

    It's 2G only.
  • Thats a shame - good info here though.

Looks as though my quest for a decent SIM supplier (and just use my current handest) continues.
  • using Billmonitor it looks as though my best bet is Vodaphone which gives (for a 12 month contract for £10-50). The following
    • 300 minutes
    • unlimited texts
    • 250 mb of data
Hopefully this should be ok with a 2g phone?!

And back to the orginal question - can I buy through a provider to get a better deal pls?

I`m with Vodafone contract ,they charge you for long texts even if they are unlimited txts what ever that means:(

    btw

I have a BB8520 and it is very limited I didnt know it was only 2g until I was lost in the borders of scotland:(

just visit vodafone on the net and they will send you free sims

Go PAYG with Ovivo (runs on Vodafone network). They have free monthly bundles so you never have to topup again (unless you go over). But you can then get additional calls, texts, data at reasonable prices if you really need more.

    http://ovivomobile.com/our-offer/

100 minutes, 100 texts, 200mb free every month (and unlimited Ovivo to Ovivo calls)

    £0 per month. Woohoo!
  • Appreciate the answers so far.

I've now got my Orange BB unlocked for the princely price of 99p!

I didnt know that 'long texts' werent included in inclusive texts.

Still none the wiser about where the best place may be to buy Vodaphone to get cashback or points etc.

Not heard of Ovivo - need to do some further digging here.

    Any other comments always welcome!
