Surprised to hear so many problems with the Focus TDCi, the '56 plate 1.6TDCi I owned for 3 years and put 60k+ miles onto didn't skip a beat. I guess I got one of the good ones...

Such is the challenge of buying cars.....some are good and cost almost nothing to keep and others turn into money pits.

I suspect given the right set of circumstances (car gets used daily, allowed to warm up and then given a good run on dual carriage way for the DPF .... and allowed to cool off at the other end) and well maintained the 1.6 TDCI can be reliable.

Equally, Im sure some people have bad experiences with Honda.

Like many things today the Internet can facilitate knowledge of faults for a car but it can also make them seem bigger than they are as so many people post things... so this all thread will in a way alter perceptions when someone searches for 'Focus 1.6 TDCI reliability'.

On balance though.... and given the Ford issued Technical Service Bulletin (https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4269027)
the 1.6 TDCI doesn't seem the best :D
  • Definitely decided off diesel for now. I'm not doing the mileage to warrant it. And the expensive repairs thing is just a major off.

    Honda civic i-vtec petrol 1.4 or 1.8..maybe?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
