GAME Grrrrr!

  • Sorry if my original post was a little confusing...

Partner went into game Sat 18th and saw a box on the shelf stating "black ops 2 season pass £35". She took it to the counter and asked if this was what I needed to be able to download ALL the maps to be released for black ops 2 and was told yes it was and that it came in voucher form. She bought it and gave it to me for my birthday.

We went into GAME the following week to read the back of the box as it had a warning on the back (something about downloading single maps). It wasn't on the shelf. We asked to see it so we could look at the warning and we were then told that they had stopped selling it for the moment as the price had gone up. Further more if we wanted to download ALL the maps we would now have to pay an additional £7.

It seems that GAME were told the pass would be going on sale at £35 so started to sell it (in voucher form) at that price. This was not pre ordered it was bought. However they have since been informed it is now £42. Basically rather then wait for the official voucher cards to be released they jumped the gun and were selling it in voucher form.

Receipt states it's a £35 psn voucher but like I said partner was told that was the form it came in so she thought nothing of it as she had checked with the cashier that it was a season pass.

Hope this helps the confusion :)

at the end of the day, will you be paying the £42?
if not then push Game for a refund
if yes, then see if they will offer a discount/goods on the £7?
  • No way will I pay any extra. We bought a season pass and we want a season pass, Not half of one. Just wondered where we stood :)

Unfortunately, I think there was a bit of an expectation that you knew how it worked.

(I haven't looked into this season pass for COD, but I'm guessing it works like other DLC in games)

You cannot go in to a shop and buy it because it's not a real, tangible thing. You have to purchase it on the PS3, so you could have in fact bought any other DLC with the £35, should you have changed your mind about the season pass.

What you buy in the shop is a voucher, or PS3 points or whatever they're called, to redeem on your PS3 that then may be redeemed for the maps.

Obviously Game have done some guesstimating (which is wrong, but probably not necessarily illegal...) and said that that value of points will buy you the maps. Sadly, they don't. Like I said, there's been an assumption that you know how that system works, and I guess your OH didn't. The problem is that GAME have misinformed you of a 3rd parties' prices, and for the sake of £7, it's probably not worth pursuing legally.
  • Basically what GAME do is market the points for certain games.

In example, Assassins Creed 3 had a season pass and you could buy it from GAME. In actuality, all it was is the value of the points to then buy the pass with it on the marketplace. It could be used to purchase anything.

It sounds like GAME assumed the cost of the maps, and that's what the Black Ops 2 themed box value was for. Then they changed the total to pay for the maps.

If the GAME receipt states Black Ops 2 map pack then you have a leg to stand on, if not sadly all you bought was a themed points box.

I do think it's a bit dodgy of GAME to do it though as they do lots of differently marked items for points on 360/PS3/Facebook but they can be used for anything.
