(previosuly asked on techie sections.. guided to here!)

i have an htc wildfire s phone, and the 'swipe down to unlock' function is not working. i have tried resetting the battery and SIM, with no success.. any ideas?

sounds to me like screen is fooked well at least the touch screen part and if that is the case you will need to get replaced would be my first thought as you are not going to be able to get into the phones software to do a hard factory reset. when you hook it up to the pc the phone acts as a hard drive in effect i would suggest saving any pictures off the phone / music etc anything you want to save basically before you get it repaired.

and getting repaired not sure of costs for new screen but those are my thoughts hope it helps.
  • thanks.

the touchscreen seems to be brpken (not damaged, as far as i can tell) - the 'swipe down to unlock' function is not responding, so i am unable to use phone at present.

Is it possible to use the SIM (on a contract) in another compatible phone? (ie, buy a spare SIM free phone, or get one unlocked).

Prices quoted locally so far range from £35 upwards, which seems a bit steep! HTC themselves want £25 just to have a look at it, and i would have to pay at least that, to get phone back if i send to send for inspection..

Also, as on a 24 month contract, do tmobile / EE have any responsibilty for replacing this, as I understand there is a lifetime expectation for the product, if they are doing 2 year contracs..

    thank you!

HTC provide a 24 month warranty on the phones, not sure why they would charge if it is less than 2 years old. Did they advise of a charge when you spoke to them?

Before you do any of that, try swiping upwards, I could be wrong but I'm semi certain my brother's wildfire s swipes upwards to unlock.

I have a Wildfire S and I can confirm it swipes up, from the bottom middle of the screen (the 'ringpull')
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
  • haha mine always swoiped down, but have tried all directions!

htc say they will have a look, and MIGHT be able to fix it, but if not will charge £25 odd as admin / handling fee-

i wont get phone back til thats paid, i guess.. mine is 14 months old..

would check with tmobile first my missus had one the wildfire s from three and came a 2year warranty which would have covered this fault provided wasn't damage created by customer e.g. water damage etc e.g. just went wrong but can't hurt to ring them up and ask question.
also i had wildfire which swiped down from top and as others have said the wildfire s swipes from middle of screen up from the ring pull up hope this helps

24 month warranty with HTC phones, so you should be covered as long as it's not been bashed/water damaged.

Have you tried a factory reset in case it's a software glitch? HTC will do this anyway, so it's not like you have anything to lose.
