The buyer is being unreasonable, but I see no reason to call him an idiot.
I forward post every week to Holland. Two days later, it's there. They don't walk over with it.
That's from Manchester to the Hague, so both have airports.

I stick with my view. Expecting an item to arrive within 3 or 4 days is unreasonable and suggests a lack of understanding of how the postal service works. 'most' of my European mail seems to get there in about a week, but if I was a buyer and had not got goods from the Netherlands after 3 days I would not be contemplating opening a case.

Care to tell us how the postal system works? The service aim for Western Europe is 3 days - for a reason.

This one isn't opening a case yet, he has just left negative feedback with no prior contact what so ever. I would happily send a replacement or refund after a suitable amount of time.

The item was "small packet", do they take longer than letters?

They shouldn't do- don't forget to block him as well to stop him bidding on your items again.

I did, however, get a "where is my item" email from the USA - 5 days after posting. I explained how the post works (i take to post office, man picks it up, sorts it, send it on a big aeroplane, cos he lives in a place called overseas etc :rotfl:). Not heard anything since, and it was 3 weeks ago - so fingers crossed.
Years ago, I had a US buyer choose surface postage, rather than airmail (I haven't offered the option for years). A week later: "Where's my item?" Well, probably somewhere in the North Atlantic! After a couple more emails, they explained that they 'did not realise' by ship would be any slower than by plane!

I don't know about anyone else, but I've never heard of a ship taking 7 or 8 hours to get across the Atlantic Ocean! :wall:

Ah, just had an American buyer email me with 'can you tell me where my item is please?'

Item in question was sent last Tuesday, oh well, at least she said please.

EDIT: just gone to respond and noticed that she didn't actually pay until last Thursday and item was sent out same day, my original estimate was based on the day she won the item which was 2 days earlier.

The USA is extra difficult to sell to at the moment. It's worthwhile pointing out that US customs are periodically xraying every package entering their country. It depends on the threat level, which changes daily.
Again, I've had mail delivered in 3 days to Chicago, but also had it take a month.

My US and my Australian stuff has really slowed down these past few months. Where it used to take a week or so it is now more often taking a good 2 weeks or even more.

I'm waiting for an item to come in from the US myself, well under customs limit so nothing should be delaying it and have already waited nearly 4 weeks and the seller wants me to wait another 2 weeks because of Hurricane Sandy. I'm giving it until day 40 and then I'll have to open a case to protect myself.
