Where do you get the idea i'm paying money into his ISA when i've never said that i do that?
.
But grey gym sock has made a good point. Maybe a word with HL might clarify matters.Warning: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

If it is a collections account the money is sent to then the customer ID / Client number is likely to be the reference number for transfers to the collections account.
Edit
I'm not quite sure why you are paying money into your brother's ISA. Am I missing something?
The way it works with HL and debit card payments made online is that you log in to your portfolio/ISA first then fill in the online debit card form to fund the account (client number is shown on page). Therefore the payment upon reaching HL Client Services will be immediately directed into your ISA or trading account.
When you make debit card payments over the phone they ask for the same client number.
Older HL accounts used to have a Bank of Scotland account facility available if clients wanted it but I have not seen any mention of that for a few years now0
