Sending SMS to Croatia?

My phone is on Orange PAYG and I am having problems sending SMS text messages to the Tele2 network in Croatia. For clarity I am a UK user on Orange and the recipient is a Croatian user on Tele2, ie neither of us is roaming.

I have spent hours on the phone to various levels of Orange customer support and they all seem unable to solve the problem.

So the only solution that I can see is to change network.

Can anyone succesfully send texts to Tele2 in Croatia and what network are you on?

Thanks

Mark.

Even if you can get it to work, it will be expensive. Provided that both of you have smartphones, use Whatsapp or Viber instead. Per megabyte, SMS is one of the most expensive forms of communication, especially internationally.

    Can he/she send to you?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • This may or may not be relevant, but thought I'd chip in as I'm on Orange PAYG (an older tarriff called "Talk_save_rtank").

My Mrs is in Russia, and I text her on the MTS network and she can text me back: I can't speak for MTS, but my texts to her are about 40p each (IIRC).

She also has a phone on the SMARTS (aka Orenburg GSM) network: I can text her on that, but she can't reply as SMARTS doesn't carry the message to Orange; perhaps because they were in financial difficulties a while back, so perhaps couldn't renew the contracts?
