stanley range/boiler

Any one got one of these for cooking C/H hot water and if so what do you reckon. Would like to know pros and cons as looking at a house which has one of theses in and can't seem to find much first hand info on the net.

  • What does it run on ? How old is it ?

We have a solid fuel one that has been converted to run on oil. Its ok, darn noisy but not overly thirsty. The boilers generally go at about 20 years and unless you are a plumber its not a cheap job. The new back boiler alone will set you back £1200 and you'll have a job finding a plumber who wants to do it.

If its an old Stanley I would price in getting a new boiler.
  • One more point. Its good at heating the house, but the oven is crap. We only use the hotplates.

yeah its an oil fired stanley but not sure how old although house looks like it be done up fairly recently. i guess what i'm wondering is does it cost much more than a separate boiler and lpg/electric cooker. Also do you have it running 24/365 or switch off in summer and use immersion heater and other cooker?
  • You need to find out what model it is. Unless its a modern condensing one with two burners it wil most definately cheaper to have a separate boiler/electric cooker.

Ours is regulated via pipe thermostats and we just have it on in the morning and evening. We are upgrading to ASHP soon as the boiler in ours is 23 years old and im fed up with oil.
