O/S Daily Sunday 25 November 2012 O/S Daily Thread Sunday 25 November 2012 Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 25 November 2012. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Hope everyone still in one piece after the gales and floods during the night x

Now getting light, very blustery, wet and generally dreich here this morning.

DH and myself got up early as the gale force wind woke us both - so both decluttered a cuppa at stupid early.

Boys now both awake - looks like our day has started, they are both organising their own cuppas and brekkie, DH has had his brekkie already and is now in the bath, and I'm multi tasking as always - on here and eating brekkie at the same time! I will be heading to the shower shortly. We were naughty last night and had a takeaway which we thoroughly enjoyed - as we haven't had one for quite a while and we won't be having another - we just want to keep them for the odd occasion - makes them better that way. I just need to more organised to make sure we have something in for Sat night - next Saturday is organised as we're going to friends for dinner and drinks. Did manage yesterday to get the cupcakes iced and some more washing, drying and ironing, will get the airer out later as weather looks awful for the next few days and clothes can wash overnight and dry on the airers whilst we're all out during the day - may as well use the heat from the radiators instead of the expensive TD.

We will be heading out shortly, will visit my parents - as mum has fractured a bone in her foot and is now in plaster and on crutches - not the ideal run up to xmas - as usual she hasn't done hardly any of her shopping - so have suggested that I help out either by going to do the shopping or doing it on line - they haven't asked for help yet and on past experience they probably won't - but I can only offer. We're having roast chicken for lunch, with all the usual trimmings, had already prepped the veg for last nights dinner that we then didn't have - so have already organised veg and will use it for today instead - so very little work needed for lunch.

Will be chilling for the afternoon, once lunch is over - menfolk will watch the last GP of the season later, I will either be on here, or reading paper/book - I'm researching investments etc - of course, the first place I looked was MSE for advice etc!

Have a great day everyone, stay safe and well x

  • Good morning nmlc and to all who cross/follow,
The high winds woke me up too. I ended up getting up just after 6 after laying there for ages listening to the wind. Still blowing a gale now.
nmlc, i hope your mum recovers soon. How long has she got to have her foot in plaster for?
Washing is on the airer and another load in the machine. I need to get some baking done today. I will do that when the oven goes on later for dinner. Everywhere is tidy. Hubby will have a whizz round with the hoover when everyone else is up.
I am on antibiotics now. I have a chest infection. Ended up going to the out of hours dr yesterday. Feel lousy really but onwards and upwards.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

  • Morning nmlc & all who cross/follow
Cold & windy here today but it isn't raining......yet.
I have some shin of beef simmering ready to make steak & mushroom pies they will be eaten on a couple of days next week, today we are having roast lamb. We will eat at 1ish & be finished in time to watch the GP.
I have wet washing on the radiators, 2 more loads to do & some ironing. I shall work out what I'm wearing next week & make sure everything is ready, it saves a mad rush in the mornings. Early shift next week, so a 5:30 start, what joy.
    Have a lovely day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

FS - hope you feel better soon x

I'm up far too early considering I was awake watching tv til gone 1am! :o.

I had a nice evening in with the girls. We ordered pizza, it only cost us £6 each after using a voucher and we had lots of food! We watched Strictly, and a bit of X Factor, gossiped and tried to plan a weekend away. They didn't stay too late as one of the girls is working today and she was driving.

Not sure what to do today. My friend asked if I wanted to go to Cardiff with her, but turns out she is planning on meeting an old friend there so would abandon me for 3+hours! As much as I'm happy to shop on my own, it seems a bit silly to go all way to Cardiff to do it! Plus I want to watch the final of the F1, my money is on Vettel for the championship win.

So I think I'll just go shopping here in the out of town shopping area, it's not massive but has a few decent shops. I want to get a new dress for Xmas. I also need to do some college work today at some point. And want to go for a jog.

OS wise - last nights pizza boxes need to be sorted for recycling, WM may go on if I have a full-ish load. If I'm home I'll make a veggie roast I think.

    Have a good day all

Hester - you're so organised, I do the rushing about in the morning thing!
foreversaving - hope the antiBs do their job soon and you feel better.
nmlc - Your poor Mum, how did she manage that?

Busy night at work last night, 4 of us on, one wanted to leave sharpish as she was going out (only 18 so she's allowed!) and one of the others just asked over the radio if she could 'just go' as they had finished their rooms. Never mind that myself and my colleague still had 6 rooms to do as we had been running about after guests. Nothing I could do as I'm not the boss so we ended up staying another hour after they had left. Blinkin cheek!

Work colleagues coming here for a takeaway tonight (too expensive to go out) and a couple of drinks so having a big clean and tidy up. Shopping to do so better get a move on. Take care and have a good Sunday. XX

Sounds wet and windy here as I am in bed browsing on laptop.

Want a quick shower and a cuppa before dds get up and I get into making breakfasts etc. Have to strip bedclothes and look out fresh bedding etc later.

Everyone enjoyed the home made pizzas and veggie soup last night - the Maggi chicken stock cubes I got from AF ages ago make a real difference to the flavour.

Lunch will be roast potatoes and parsnips, stuffed chicken (sprouts for dh) and big pan of stir fried veg to go with it all. Might stew some plums and make crumble for afters.

DDs are taking to cinema tonight to see "Madagascar 3" so dh can help himself to soup in fridge etc.

Did a shop for fruit, veg, milk and eggs in A**i yesterday afternoon and it was absolutely mobbed. The tv adverts must be having an effect ;) I was tempted by the champagne Christmas pudding but then realised that the orange topped ones had arrived back in stock and as they were both £2 cheaper and also the ones that had won an award I decided on that instead.

Youngest dd comes home from uni in three weeks :j so will need to adjust to cooking for five - then seven over Christmas.

DH a bit bemused by weather predictions of minus 15 degrees and snow so agreed it is as well that I stock up with basics and I hope to do a lot of pressie shopping online as well. Really annoyed that B**ts website was out of order for ages and then the star offer was out of stock as that was going to be a present

Glad you got treatment for the chest infection and make sure you look after yourself and stay warm.

    Hester

A 5.30 start sounds horrendous but all the prep you have done should help avoid some off the hassle.

    Hugs to all

The old ariel on the roof snapped during the high winds last night  and was scraping the roof all night. It is hanging precariously by a wire and DH is going up to see if he can free it, and check the roof and chimney for damage, if there is then we will have to ring the insurance company :(

Forever saving hope you feel better soon animated-smileys-hug-005.gif
