Asking question on the behalf of my friend.
He earns around £1500 and pays out £930 a month for his 2 bed house rent. He got 2 kids age of 3 and 1 & Mrs is not working ATM because looking after the kids, wondering how does council estimate the topup towards the rent.
Any estimate please according to his earnings and paying rent out.
Thanks

His actual rent is irrelevent, as they work it out on the Local Housing Allowance (assuming it's a private rent and not council). That's a set amount depending on how big a house is needed. You can find the amount on the local council website.
This is the amount used in the calculation.
How many bedrooms are required depends on the gender of the children.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -

Thanks for your message.
I checked the local rate on council website and it shows as Two Bedrooms Rate: £207.69 per week.
But my question is as you know he works full time and earns £1500 each month, how would they calculate him and what estimate he will be eligible for topup each month towards his rent.
Thanks0 -
he can use one of the benefit checkers such as http://www.turn2us.org.uk/benefits_search.aspx but best thing to be would be to apply0

Any help he may get will go towards paying the LHA amount. As his rent is £33 pcm over the threshold, he'll have to pay this on top of anything else.0

Mank thanks.
The LHA rate is the maximum that could be paid for someone not working, so even if entitled to full housing benefit they would still need to pay that figure on top
When they calculate the housing benefit they will ignore the actual rent and use the applicable LHA rate (unless the rent is less than the LHA)0 -

In case of my friend stituation can he still get the housing benefit ? as mentioned he is in full time work and earns £1500 each month but end up paying around two third of his earning towards rent.
Just curious that council will help him out with local LHA rates or topup some money ...
Thanks0 -

whats this got to do with you in the first place, you wounder how he gets this money by the LHA, so if someone said here he shouldnt youd go report said person? have you nothing else better to do?
by the time this person pay his share of the rent council tax utilities and food his earnings have more or less dissapeared, are you thinking this person earns too much and shouldnt get help from his LHA.
this person proabably lives off tax credits and child benefit as his earning are swallowed by everyday essentials of living.0 -

As said before he should apply. It is likely he could get some help. They will look at his wage plus other income (there is probably about £300 per month child tax credits) and work out what help he qualifies for...the calculator linked above should give an indication0 -

Now now....the op does state they are asking on behalf of their friend, so maybe we can presume they have asked them to gain some info.:)0
