Exactly! Knowing what the present is just brings a different kind of excitement. I love Nigel Slater's books and one year my friend said she would buy me his latest as I couldn't afford it the time. Every time I saw it in the shop I would think about how I was going to be getting it soon and thinking about what I would choose to cook first. I was actually quite excited opening the paper even though I knew what was inside!

    Yes, I am soo excited!
It's different with kids, but with adults I find it's more difficult to judge what they would like most, especially as you have few to buy for.
So why waste money on a 'guess', why not ensure they are happy.
  • I love a sherbet dip (not a fountain though as I can't stand liquorice) but I can see why you'd rather have a micro pedi. I'm a bit obsessed with not having rough skin on my feet, and have tried lots of things including one of those egg things which was rubbish, but this http://www.boots.com/en/Soap-Glory%C2%99-Foot-Buffer_1228809/ is the holy grail of rough skin removal.

I must recommend Gehwol Foot Bath (a powder you add to water and soak your feet in). The smell will nearly knock you out, but it's a miracle worker. I use a foot file after soaking my feet in it and the dead skin just drops off. I have no idea what they put in it to cause that to happen!
  • Could be worse.. I get a pair of bl@@dy oven gloves year in year out!!! It started when dd chose them for our first Christmas with her, he had however taken her to tesco to chose something and not some fancy jewellery shop!!!!

Last year he did manage an iPad,docking station that sings and dances, soap and glory etc etc which I was very very grateful about along with the oven gloves......

He tells me he's already bought this year, I'm pretty sure ts the new thingy that you can cook chips in a spoon of oil , I think this as he's asked me a million times if I have seen them and aren't they great... Yes if you like chips (which I don't!!!!!!!!)

Sounds like my OH who was totally useless at keeping our daughter's birthday present a secret. He thought his questioning of her was so discreet but he was as obvious as a giraffe on the A9! :rotfl:

Swap you a chip maker thingy for a load of sherbet dabs? :D

My best mate's hubby bought her an entire (I mean retail-sized, he works in a shop :D) box of Party Rings biscuits last year. When she rang me on Xmas Day I think she was close to pelting him with them, box by box... :D
Every year she buys her own present, and every year, she gets another present from him :D So far, as well as the biscuits, she has had a hoodie that doesnt fit, a cap that looks wrong on her... he has been warned again this year but I'm waiting eagerly to see what shes getting :D

Wow, I like party rings, but a whole box of them?

I think I'm in the minority here, it drives me mad having to give a list of what I want. I can't help thinking that my family should know me well enough to know what I'd like - even if it's just book tokens!
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
