I'm starting to think it might be better if the adults didn't buy for each other at Christmas (bah humbug!) as it does seem to cause ill-feelings as well as a poor bank balance!

Can I just emphasise that this really isn't a serious complaining thread. :D

There will be no ill feelings on my part. I will just use the cheese grater as suggested by Chris, whilst sucking on my Dab. ;):D

    I've been Money Tipped!
I am getting a bill paid from him, he is getting a roman blind for the utility room from me. Romantic huh?

We do give a stocking to each other (mainly socks, smellies, I am getting conditioner in mine, because I chose them, he ordered them and they already arrived).

I would get the person in question the micro pedi. A swap seems like
    Y?

I remember the year I was on a diet and actually managing to stick to it, my partner told my mum to get me a chocolate fountain for Christmas, could have throttled him!
Slimming World - 3 stone 8 1/2lbs in 7 months and now at target :j
  • my mum buys me loads of things at christmas, including a bag of "bits"
every year i ask for an A5 diary, every year i get an A4 diary
i have a drawer next to where i sit, an A5 would fit in there and i would use it
since its an A4 it never gets used :(

    her philosophy?

Reminds me of my auntie. Everyone knows 'she likes licorice allsorts' so what does everyone buy her for xmas every year... I think she's got enough licorice allsorts to open up a shop :rotfl:

Presents can be tricky, but I like to try and think of what someone might like, or at least make use of. I don't like giving or receiving a 'want list', - for me that's not the idea of getting someone a present. And if somebody gets something they don't want it's not the end of the world, - they can pass it on, charity shop it, or even sell it.

I'm starting to think it might be better if the adults didn't buy for each other at Christmas (bah humbug!) as it does seem to cause ill-feelings as well as a poor bank balance!

One year when I was a kid I got three boxes of Ferrero Rocher. No-one dared get me a box again for years.

I'm in a bit of a bah humbug mood. I wasn't going to get anything for my dad and sister, but they both insisted. Dad's was easy, I got him a book he'll like signed by the author. Then sister sent me a list of stuff she wanted (mainly stationery for uni), and I sent her and dad a list of stuff I want.

So instead of going into town and buying myself a bottle of whisky and a new bedroom bin, I'm going into town to buy my sister some notebooks, and she'll go and buy me the bin, then we'll swap. Dad's bought me the whisky. He told me so last week. I managed to shut him up before he told me everything he's got though.

    What a waste of time...

the only adults I buy for are my mum and my OH. We stopped buying for other adults years ago, we just all agreed to it, as we all had/were having children of our own.

Is it somone close to you? If so, say to the person - "i hope you're not serious about buying me a load of sherbert dabs - I don't want them. You'll be wasting your money"

If they persist, just tell them, "You're not listening to me. I'd hate that as a present. I don't even know anyone who I could give it away to."

What a horrible response to a present! It sounds like the OP has been seen eating sherbet dabs which is pretty unusual for an adult, so clearly some thought has gone into it.

Talk about a first world problem. If someone gets you a slightly naff present for Christmas you act pleased, say thank you, and then quietly get rid of it.

If you want something yourself, you buy it yourself, Christmas presents aren't a way to shop for yourself with someone else paying.

That's a tad dramatic don'tchya think? Even by my standards. ;):D

Methinks you are giving this thread more serious consideration than was required. :D
