Hi we own a few propertys and i have never come across this. Our new tenant asked me the other day is it ok to get sky dish put up ect and i said yes as the house they are going to be renting is pretty much in the middle of noware and poor freevew ect. But she states it needs bt points in each of the two rooms ect and she want me to arrange this or she cant get sky ????? Now i am a bit confused as to why i must do this (she is insisting that i arrange this) cant sky install extra points as the phone line to my memory was with sky anyway (last tenant) at the property. She states they wont install her multi room if i dont u bt phone sockets in each room and i think she thinks because the house is in the middle of noware that we are desperate to let it ( nope not in any hurry). she also wants to install a prepayment meter in which i have told her no as the nearest shop is 5 miles away i think it would be rather foolish but thats a different story. Will sky not give her a month or so grace to get the boxes connected untill either i get sockets put in or she gets openreach or whoever to install some ? sorry also she states that the bt wire in the house wont be good enough for broadband so i must replace it and install these extra bt points in the rooms ?

No if she rents it, its upto her to pay the sky fee for the new lineDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

She's a bit demanding this tenant.
Tell her if she wants broadband to buy a dongle
If she wants Sky, pay for it herself.
She also needs to realise that a prepay meter will cost a lot of money to install and the fuel will cost her more too.
Hu, she says the wire wont be good enough, what is she a BT technician. Ask BT, they will be the ones to tell yu anything you need to know,
Only pay for what you wantto pay for. If there is a bt socket in the house already, then you have carried out your obligations. She should have negotiated all this before she agreed to move in.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Sky won't fit phone sockets but they will arrange a by engineer to do this on their behalf at a significantly reduced cost.
I bought a new build with no phone line connected, bt wanted £115, sky said they would do it for £15 with a new customer package, it was very amusing when a bt engineer turned up to install it. I guess sky pay more then £15 to bt for doing it absorb the cost as part of the new customer profit.
Your tenant sounds like she's trying to save a few quid.
I'm sure there is a rule about not being able to remove the cover from your master phone socket unless its one with the detachable service section.0 -
There's no rule about it ......Long long ago when BT had the monopoly on the telephone service there was as they kept ownership of the socket and didn't allow anyone to mess with it -nowdays everyone owns their master socket to allow the ability to switch providers.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

You can get a bit of kit that allows you to use the plug points for telephone points. google "wireless phone jack".I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages, student & coronavirus Boards, money saving boards. Both boxes must be connected at all times for Multiroom. The extensions don't have to be hard wired, she can run trailing extensions. If she wants them hard wired tell her to arrange her own supplier to do this! BT will charge about £130 per extension. No, Sky will not give her a grace period.
If she has a standard single box then no phone connection is required, as long as she buys out this option at sign up.
Or she could just use Freesat for nothing. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

The master socket is BT's property, the extensions are your own. Why would you need to 'own' the master socket to switch provider? A switch is done at exchange or street cab level, not in the property. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
thanks for the replys. Yeh she was all sweetness and light a few weeks ago all references checked out ok including her last house spoke to the owner (her last landlord) buy i am guessing her wanted rid of her fast lol now shes our problem. I spoke to her last night. She phoned me asking for an update to which i stated that since we put in a new line about 3 years ago and since the last person in the property was with sky broadband and they got 7mb connection which out here is fast compaired to some villages i couldnt see why she couldnt get sky and the multi room ect ect. She wasnt best pleased but i gave her links to ebay also maplin ect ect and dongles ect so she can go and get herself the mains wired(plug in type) phone sockets that work just fine for sky ect. So hopefully that will be the end of it. I explained before she took the tenancy that the house was remote and it takes a certain type of person to live there and i didnt mean to be rude but its a trek to the shops. Things that maybe available in her last house ect may not be available here like fiber bb ect and i also told her and showed her pictures(efore she signed) of when the place was last redone which was 4 years ago eg new wiring ect. It cost us a fortune at the time but its good for a long time so that why we did it, so i couldnt believe that she was saying the wiring ect need replaced new phone line ect new cables her and there. but a long story cut short is she now knows i am not a push over and if she had asked nicely at the start instead of demanding ect i may well have put extra bt sockets in the rooms ect for her (before she moved in) but i am starting to think she may not last out here as when the snow comes i am sure there will be nothing but problems ect
She was complaining that the price of coal was to much and could she maybe get gas (lpg) in i just had to tell her right that if she wanted a gas central heated house why has she took a tenancy in the middle of noware where the house is heated by solid fuel/wood ect central heating arrrrrgghhh
the prepay meter is a no no i and i told her again about that as we have solar panels on the roof which feed in to the grid ect which the wiring is very complex at the meter point so i will be checking with scottish power every month to make sure that she hasn't just gave me the fingers and installed it anyway
arrrrgggghhhhh. rant over sorry guys and girls
