Paying two water companies. Is this right?

in Water bills
Hello, we are currently paying Southern water £20.80 a month and also South East water £17.00 a month. Is this correct? Does everyone pay two water bills? We have been paying both for the last 5 years and it makes me wonder.

Could one be for water and the other for sewerage?
This happens a lot, particularly when properties are near the border of the two catchment areas.0 -
Depends if you are metered or have charges based on the Rateable Value of your property.
Also if you are charged for Surface Water Drainage.
If metered it depens on the number of people in the property(including children) - the average consumption is approx 60 cubic metres, per person, per year.
If not metered it depends on your Rateable Value(RV). However £37 a month is probably about an average charge.0 -
It will say on your bills what the charges are for, water or drainage.
There is no such thing as an average, prices vary by up to 250% depending on your region.
Why have you waited 5 years to query it?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
South East Water is a water-supply-only company.
If you are in their supply area, you pay them for water supply and Southern Water for sewerage and surface water charges.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0
