He's not blinkered. He knows exactly what's going on and that makes it worse.

And what makes it even more egregious is that IDS enjoys what he's doing!!

Watched this but it seems the crowd clapped IDS, so what it does that mean, that they totally agree with him.

Of course they agreed with this evil man, because courtesy of rags like the daily mail they've been drip fed a cocktail of lies regarding sick and disabled people.

    - of course the crowd agreed with him
    - but what he said was lies & untrue propaganda
    - anyone with 5 minutes and a brain can find the real truth
    - the crowd applauded a lie, but that's the nature of propaganda done well - the nation believes it

I can only agree with all of this. I am on IB not moved over yet to ESA for mental health and other physical problems but resigned to the fact that I will probably be knocked off it, but will appeal.

Sometimes I feel like a nobody and undeserving of getting this benefit because of all the propaganda put forth by certain elements in the government and other sections of the media about us all being scroungers and malingerers.
sometimes so much so that I even begin to question my own beliefs, because they are doing such a great job at brainwashing the general public and even the disabled thermselves.

I had to laugh at the Daily Mail, the stories about benefit cheats and srcoungers and yet when child benefit is being cut for the better off they want to run a campaign to get it back.

I feel that whether a person is getting child benefit or one of the other benefits such as JSA or income support or ESA its all the same, its a bit like the pot calling the kettle black if someone is complaining about people on disability benefits and yet getting children allowance in their own family.

Saiying that can you see labour reversing any of this governments policies if they get back into power, I would hope so but I won't hold my breath.

Absolutely zero chance of Labour reversing what has happened so far. I'm relatively new to this whole DLA/ESA thing which has been going on for years and years and I can see how the "Andys" of the world have taken full advantage of it. I'm not averse to changes in claiming these benefits as long as it weeds out those that are abusing it rather than actually needing it.

Times are hard and the government have to make hard choices and those with disabilities are currently under the microscope. I'm not sure that PiP is the answer (though I'll be tested at some point) but it's common knowledge that many have used the disability card that didn't need it and it should be cleaned up.

I certainly won't vote Conservative or Lib-Dem but is it any better going Labour? I doubt it, like it or not the ball is rolling and (hopefully) only the truly disabled will get through this although there will always be those that should be deemed unfit for work that slip through. :( It's a grim outlook whichever way you look at it for the disabled.

    Q. Who brought in ESA and appointed ATOS and gave them their terms of reference?
    A. Labour.

No what makes it worse is that he claimed JSA in 1981 after leaving the army ;)
I always take the moral high ground, it's lovely up here...

Yes, but the Tories are equally to blame as they have kept ATOS on and awarded them the PIP contract.

Ignore the benefit bashers, he's talking about the Labour pilot project in 2008 when they bought out the business that used to test coal miners for emphysema to get at a UK business with a DOT UK GOV contract.

Its more than just LiMA / DWP, its £3 bi££ion pounds worth overall and counting, the LiMA contract, the one that does the medical tests / work capability assessment, is currently worth £112 mi££ion on its own,and goes up to £400 million for delivering PIP.

Someone, anyone later in history will look at the DWP handling of the benefits system, the ATOS contract, the relationship with media and its use of slurs, selective statistics & relation to increased hate crimes, and the increaing by the month human rights abuses. We need an end to Work Capability Assessments, as per BMA vote. We need a proper review of the changes an their impact upon veterans, sick, people with disabilities/mental health issues & carers. We need to see what these assessments are doing to our veterans, sick, people with disabilities/mental health issues & carers.

Its not ATOS it's the government .. .. any good arms dealer will sell you the guns to do the job and take the blame, and any good axeman will swing the helve down hard for his paymaster and take the blame.

    THEY are responsible

Thats it. Screw it up and blame whoever takes over to sort out the mess. And the Tories will do the same in opposition. We need the spirit of 1789 to clean up the whole system...and when 1789 turns into 1793, I'll be steering the first of the tumbrils with Clegg, Milliband, Cameron, Balls, Osborne, Blair and Brown first under the blade. I'll let Darling off because he at least tried in an impossible situation left to him by his politically and economically illiterate boss.
