Classic example of a politician deflecting. The truth always hurts and he should be ashamed of himself over that case. He should have apologised and promised to ensure it never happens again. Not change the subject.
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.
  • Sums up IDS for what he is - a uncompassinate, blinkered Tory.

Owen Jones (the chap who posed the question to IDS) wrote an excellent book called "Chavs, the demonisation of the working class"

He's not blinkered. He knows exactly what's going on and that makes it worse.

Watched this but it seems the crowd clapped IDS, so what it does that mean, that they totally agree with him.

    - of course the crowd agreed with him
    - but what he said was lies & untrue propaganda
    - anyone with 5 minutes and a brain can find the real truth
    - the crowd applauded a lie, but that's the nature of propaganda done well - the nation believes it
Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. • What's so saddening is that someone like IDS is meant to represent people (including disabled ones) regardless of his politics, yet he clearly cannot conceive of being disabled and unable to physically comply with demands of a JSA claim. He can't imagine being so poor that the length of an appeal to overturn a wrong decision on ESA might mean starvation or homelessness when there's nothing to fall back on.

I understand perfectly how ATOS decisions can lead to suicide, but he doesn't and never will. These people live in an entirely different world without the burden of reality.
