tether my mobile or broadband bundle

Hi there,
I was wondering if any of you can help me with a decision I am trying to make regarding getting connected to the internet. It seems there are so many deals and options out there and as a bit of a technophobe I am getting a bitt bogged down by it all!
So, i have recently moved house:
I have a mobile phone contract that gives me unlimited broadband, however I would need to pay £33 a month (i currently pay £17...due to a special deal) to upgrade to an iPhone so I could tether my phone to to my PC.
Or the other option, would be to stick with using my contract mobile for purely calls (the contract is over however I do have a very good deal) and to purchase a virgin, talk talk package etc. Although, I would not necessarily need the phone. There are phone line sockets in the flat but it isn't connected.
Phew! So....tether mobile or purchase broadband?
I would be really grateful for any suggestions you could.....thanks in advance!
