BT - Additional Card Holder ?

sfax - I've never had a BT card but when I did a recent balance transfer to HHonors (operated by Visa) they asked me if the card I was balance transferring to was in my name. I'm not entirely sure why it would make any difference to them, to be honest, since I would be assuming the debt, but I guess if those are the rules then they are what you are signing up to!

Santander don't allow BTs to anyone other than they main cardholder.

Why do some banks put these restrictions on?

Perhaps as a principle of good credit management - to prevent people with poor credit (who can't get 0% offers) passing their debts onto a friend or relative then running up even more debts?

Or more likely - they don't want to become involved in a dispute between their cardholder and an unrelated third party, or give the cardholder any excuse (however unreasonable) not to pay them.
