Sat & Sun 24th & 25th November - What small DFW things will you do today??!
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:

  • Good morning all!

    It's the weekend wooo!

LPP - thanks for starting us off and hooray the tooth is gone. If it starts getting more painful or is still painful after a few days, do go back to the dentist though.

RFTA - I know what you mean about the knitting. I started two cushion covers for my nan back in FEBRUARY :o

It's freezing here today, so heating is on (mostly for the furry bundle though, I will be doing housework to keep warm :D)

Also have m-i-l coming round later. We're off to a Christmas craft fayre.

    Today's mse list:

Not taking any cash to Christmas fayre so cannot impulse buy. will have to get cash out if I see anything worth buying

Try to avoid a coffee out (however might be desperate by this time as no milk in house )

Try to get housework done before m-i-l comes round

going to m-i-l's house for tea

Reduce credit limit on cleared cc to £50 (or as low as it will let me)

Check online banking (all up to date)

Ring vodafone to find out why internet dongle constantly cuts out!

Try to finish cushion covers over weekends

    Poss start making Christmas cards

Sure there is more but can't think now (need caffeine!)

Have a good day guys :)

Morning all. Today the DFW-style DIY continues:

:staradmin:Putting up clock and photos in the kitchen using screws and hooks from the old flat. Ditto towel rail in bathroom.

:staradmin: Shortening a shelving unit from the old flat to put in a cupboard.

:staradmin: Painting new bedroom same colour as old to use up paint we already have.

:staradmin: Advertising old lamp and mirror on Freecycle

:staradmin: Fitting new hardboard back on year-old wardrobe. Yesterday I went to Ikea Glasgow and asked to order a new hardboard back for my wardrobe which was damaged by mildew in the old flat. Nice man said if they had one in stock I could have it there and then so he goes out the back and returns with one. I got my wallet out and he said I could have it free of charge! :T Homebase wanted £29 for a piece! Ikea Customer Services carry a large amount of spares for their products and the nice man said if a customer needs a spare part for an Ikea product they will always try to supply it. Make-do-and-mend!

    Today I will;

Use 1 teabag for 2 cups and only fill the kettle with enough for a cuppa at a time

Make a blackberry & apple crumble with some foraged items in the freezer

NSD as not going out anywhere today

    Heating off, jumper on

Wrap some Christmas presents with wrapping paper which was 10p each in the sales in January. Got enough to last years !

Food for the next couple of weeks will mostly be eaten from the freezer as am trying to clear what's in there so I can defrost it before doing the Christmas food shop so food shopping shouldn't come to much.

I've just listed everything in my freezers ..... there's quite a lot :o and more than enough to a month.

So my dilemma is ....... use it up and have a light grocery month (would be good to help with reducing OD) but I always worry a bit at this time of year in case the weather turns & we're snowed in ... so like the freezers full at this time of year. Help!

So glad it's not just me!;) Hope you get them finished soon!:)

Morning guys thanks LPP for starting and glad that you are in less pain. Hope it goes soon!

rising I'd be tempted to clear the freezer - really even when its snowed terribly has it ever been so bad that you are snowed in for more than a couple of days?

So need to pull my finger out as went out last night and am just sitting around at the moment bliss... Last night only spent £4 as oh found £20 when we were walking to the pub so I let him buy me a couple of glasses of wine :T

today I found a French Connection coat in a CS for £6.50 - fits perfectly :T

So my DFW plans for the rest of the day:

    * check banking and do finances for the month - shifting/paying/do budget etc
    * go visit mil for coffee and drop off something I exchanged for her yesterday
    * walk to mil's instead of driving
    * all meals from stores
    * make giant jaffa cake for my birthday tomorrow
    * work out what I need for quilt I am making for my bff's upcoming baby now she knows its going to be a boy :T
    * use discount card to go to cinema later

ok that's all for me actually. Mainly enjoy the wonders of the weekend
    DF as at 30/12/16
    Wombling 2025: £87.12
    NSD March: YTD: 35

    GC annual £449.80/£4500
    Eating out budget: £55/£420
    Extra cash earned 2025: £195
  • Loving the Christmas paper, Ikea and jaffa cake! I can't "quote" because it keeps refreshing the page when I press delete some of the post! Annoying! How do you make a giant jaffa cake?!!

    Today I'm going to:

enjoy some wine bought with SB @ M&S!
go for a voucher pre-paid meal and friend paying cash to me for her share (will help me in run up to payday)
housework in meantime - hang up clothes on airers
    defrost something for tea later
maybe make soup from wilting veg!

    Afternoon all

Day three of me posting on here! It's amazing what I can do whew I've deactivated Facebook :rotfl:

Planned on a nsd, but already failed! Needed sugar, bought bread and some sausages as well :o Still, it's breakfast and lunch for me and dh today.

Checked banking, still in the overdraft :( dh is waiting on people paying him for work he has done. I know people are skint in the run up to Christmas, but he has paid out for parts to fix machines so we are skint as well!!

Working tonight 4.30pm til 11.30pm doing take away deliveries. Hoping to earn about £80. Plus I get a free meal at the end of the night, so that's dinner sorted for me and dh :j

Won't be spending another penny today. Won't be buying anything from amazon! I've got £9 from pinecone in my PayPal, will transfer that to my bank account just now.

LPP, glad the tooth is gone! A few days of soup and you will be loads better. I got a tooth out last year, best thing I've done! It was a bad tooth, cracked in half since I was about 18, can't believe it took me 9 years to do anything about it :o Got myself signed up to a dentist that uses sedation, don't remember a thing about getting it out :rotfl:

Hope everyone has a good day!
Can't think of anything smart to put here...
