Which is normal, as many insurers don't need to be told about speeding points until renewal, as said earlier!

It doesn't matter what 'many' insurers do - it only matters what his insurers do.

Even if he keeps quiet, if his insurers have an ongoing duty of disclosure, he better hope he doesn't have any claims between now and renewal.

Thanks for your replies. I thought you had to tell the insurance company as soon as possible of any change in circumstances.
This is over 6 months since it happened.
I am worried there could be major repercussions.

    as above, check the policy

Mine (for what it's worth) has three....

Before: Covers new cars & drivers

As soon as possible: Covers new jobs & changes of address

    At renewal: Covers convictions

I got got caught speeding earlier this year, and got offered a speed awareness course in the place of the points and a fine.

I paid for the course, attended, and then received an email telling me my insurance company was taking an extra 130 pounds out of my account because of the ticket. After a long phone call i managed to get the increase in premium down to 70 pounds.

I have no idea why they had charged me because the course was supposed to be in place of the points, my license is clear. And, I have no idea how they found out about the ticket because I didn't tell them.

I would tell the next insurer just in case, but don't worry too much about it.

I have wrote a car off with alloy wheels and tinted windows that I didn't declare to the insurers. They called to say they had the right to decline my payment but said they would waive it this time.

I'd get back in touch with your Insurance Co. attending a Speed Awareness course does not affect your Insurance, nor do you need to tell them. That is why you cannot attend a further course for 3 years.

I'm curious as to what the £70 was for..

It can now according to this

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2235261/Car-insurers-Admiral-penalising-drivers-speed-awareness-courses-instead-taking-points-licence.html

"Insurance company Admiral says it is now treating drivers who complete the course exactly the same as those that take a fine and points – which means increased premiums. "

  • savemoney, that's exactly who i am with. I was enraged. They explained that the 70 pounds was because they need to be informed even if you complete the course. So 100 for the course + 70 for the insurance.. but i suppose its better than having 3 points on my license for 5 years.

As has been said before around this Admiral SAC issue.

    Seems strange.....

I don't see how they could know unless you told them

and, their T&C only require convictions to be disclosed at renewal (and that's convictions, no mention of speed awareness course) so I can't see any reason to justify a mid term premium increase.

I'd complain and get the £70 back
  • They explained that as soon as you receive the ticket you are to report it ASAP. And I have no idea either, unless they have an automated flagging system that lets them know when there is any activity on a license. Big Brother! But I definitely did not tell them.

I spent an hour on the phone complaining, I spoke to two different phone operators and a supervisor, there was no way I was getting that money back.

Spending an hour on the phone isn't a complaint, it's a discussion.

A complaint is where you write down what you are unhappy about and send it in and they either show you where in your policy terms it says they are entitled to charge you the extra £70 or they give it back to you
