Son-in-law just received car insurance renewal letter.
I usually try to find best deal for him and asked him was there anything different from last year.He said only the 3 points he got for speeding in April. He hasn't informed the insurance- says he didn't know you had to.Thought you did it when you renew.
Is it too late now as his renewal is the 3rd December?

No, it's not too late. Best to let them know and pay the additional premium.
Actually, it's better to change insurer, and just let the new one know.0 -
Change insurers and make sure the new company is not linked to the previous one.
A lot of companies are linked. Here are Admiral's list.

Check your policy because I think most (all?) insurers only need telling about speeding points at renewal
If yours is the same then you can do the normal shop around and go with whoever you like0 -
Thanks for your replies. I thought you had to tell the insurance company as soon as possible of any change in circumstances.
This is over 6 months since it happened.
I am worried there could be major repercussions.0 -
Check his policy wording - it will say what has to be disclosed, and when.0

Another vote here for read your own policy wording.

Thanks. Will get him to check policy wording.0

Most providers ask at renewal. Some need to be notified when it happens. In his shoes, I would pick a new provider not linked to the old one (as mentioned higher up) and declare them on the new policy.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). dunstonh , I understand what you are saying but if you change insurers won't your new insurer want to see your renewal schedule for proof of no claims bonus.
They would then see that your speeding points weren't on the schedule.0 -
Which is normal, as many insurers don't need to be told about speeding points until renewal, as said earlier!0
