I want a new PC!

SOooo fed up with this PC. My own fault brought it from a friend!!
Looking for a PC about £250-£300 I do not mind having a reputable refurb.I have been told I need a i3, i5, i7, coz I really know what all that means.
Its for home use, a silver surfer no games except Microsoft games that come with windows! Would like it quick not like his thing, I have tried to do 'Hijack This' but it will not let me because it needs to be administrator done what all the sites told me to do but still states I need to be administrator
So its time for a more modern PC. I just missed the Dell 660 for £279.
If anyone spots a good buy please let me know.
Why do I need an i3 and not AMD or Intel dual core?

factory restore it, after backing up to more than one place (and checking the backup worked)

(if you have a problem running hijackthis (For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file error etc) on vista/W7, right click on hijackthis.exe and run as admin, if that doesn't work, try again holding down the shift key and run as admin)

.... or change the properties of the hosts file to make it writeable (in Vista/Win7 it is read only be default)
How do I add a signature?

A Factory Restore is somewhat cheaper than a new PC...in fact it's free.
i3/i5/i7 refers to the processor; a higher number means faster (and more expensive). But for what you imply you use it for, just about any PC will do the job, you don't need a modern processor.
I know plenty of people who happily surf, email, do Office tasks, watch iPlayer etc, all on vintage Pentium 4's running XP.
PS: if it's your internet connection that is slow, then the fastest PC in the world will not make it any faster.

  • Just bought a new laptop from Sainsburys. Medion Akoya E6221 Core i3 processor, Windows 7, 4gb RAM, 320gb HDD, Blu-Ray player. £289.99

Spec looks ok, not sure about the brand, reviews look average.

Hope the restore sorts your problems, as they say cheaper than a new computer.
    Keep smiling,

    Good morning.
Tried a few things last night for about three hours!Half way through me playing everything went small which this thing does from time to time. Sometimes a restart sorts it some times it does not.
I do not think what ever I will do will make me happy with this PC. So its going to go.
Many thanks for all your reply's

We didn't suggest that you 'played with it'. We suggested that you backed up and did a System Restore, which will take your perhaps 30mins all in.
This will make it 'as new'. Then perhaps add some more RAM: another cheap job taking 10 mins.

My apologies for being factious, my idea of playing with it meant trying to do maintenance on PC.
I have no Windows 7 back up disk so a little frightened to delve too much. I have backed all through system backup, but being honest really do not know what to do with it. If anything happens I have a friend who would probably set me right.
I suppose because I do not like this PC, and I was hoping for some suggestions on a new one!
    Many thanks for your assistance.

You were advise to do a Factory Restore. Not a system backup, not a system restore. Neither of the latter will put it back to 'as new'. You don't need aW7 install disk as long as you have a working restore partition on the hard drive, which most modern PC's come with.
Make and model would help, otherwise refer to the manual for how to do a Factory Restore.
This will wipe all your data, so back that up first.

why don't you like it, if it came presinstalled with W7 it must be quite new?
