in Credit cards
Hi,
We purchased wooden flooring at the end of September, paid for it by Debit Card, the company had a problem with the invoice issue, so we left without it, and thought no more of it. The other day we received a letter from the company to say they had a problem over that weekend with their terminal and the transaction did not go through, so we still owe the payment. We checked our bank and nothing has debited, we telephoned the company and they said this had happened to 50 customers over that weekend and they had to write to all of them. At the moment we dont have the funds to cover this. Were do we stand with the payment, are we liable to pay it in full asap, will non payment go against us and affect our credit rating?? please advise asap thanks

No - but if you cannot afford o pay, you must return the goods. (In an unused condition at your expense).
Nobody can affect your credit file unless you have explicitly given permission.0 -
Well without paying you won't get the goods. Or if they have already supplied them. They could take you to court....
Given you did notice the payment was not taken, why can you not pay for the flooring...
Remember a retailer can process a transaction at any point. It is only in their best interest to take the money straight away.
In many cases you are lucky they have contacted you. Some would simply use the card details and reprocess the payment.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
I agree - how come if you thought the transaction had gone through you don't have the moneynow?
Surely it must be sitting in your bank account.
OP I think you have been really lucky here - most would have reprocessed the payment and you now would be facing overdraft charges and more.0 -
Surely all they are doing is letting you know that the payment has not gone through, if they have your card details, as long as they have informed you they can take it anytime now.
Watch your bank balance.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

OP wrote "...so we left without it." Has a contract been made? It appears that the retailer was unable to process the payment so the customer walked away.
I think we need more details.
OP, was the flooring later delivered to you? Did you sign any paperwork (contract)?0 -
I presumed that the OP left without the invoice, but did in fact leave with the flooring, thinking that the payment had gone through but was not issued with an invoice/receiptmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I don't understand. Surely you had the funds when you bought the floor, and since the payment didn't go through, you must still have the funds? You wouldn't have use such funds for anything else would you?clarereardon wrote: »At the moment we dont have the funds to cover this.
They can't affect your credit record as they are not a licensed creditor (such as your bank is), but they can take you to court for non-payment, which could increase the cost by ten fold.0 -
We left the store thinking the transaction had been processed correctly with no issue's, and we have laid the floor and as for not checking my bank statements I do this all the time but was not checking specifically for that particular payment as there was no issues when they made the order so would not think the payment would not go through!!!!
We only checked and noticed the payment had not gone through after we received the letter from the company, as we then checked the history of transactions on our statements.
They had a problem issuing the invoice ( we were not bothered too much about this anyway so left without it). They have not took the payment directly or automatically as the company has lost all banking details so they are unable to just take the payment from the card.
I am not saying we r not goin to pay for the goods but wanted to know we're we stood about paying in full straight away?

How much did this flooring cost?
How many items of the same value go through your statement then?
They have supplied you with goods which you have used - they have the rights to the full purchase price now unless they agree to give you credit terms.
Did you think that you had got away with something for nothing?0
