insurance paper work mixed up

hi my partner recently had a quote for trade insurance and he company sent out the paper work so he can look through and make a decision before going ahead with it.

He recieved the paper work yesterday and there were alot of mistake in it, they had even put the company down as motor servicing instead of car spraying and all the figures were wrong, but the worst part ofit is my partner actually has party of someone else'spolicy in his, it has the customer name, address, policy number, company turn over and few other details. and when my partner looked through to check if all his pages were there they are not so we're assuming that this guy has also got some of my partners information.

I think this company has made up his mind as to wether he is going with them because of all the mistakes but i'm just wondering if there is someone we could complain to. obviously we're not going to gain anything out of it but unless they are aware of their mistake it could happen again. Should we just ring the customer services of the company or not sure if it's more serious and should be reported to someone else. any help would be greatful. thanks

Make a complaint to the company ASAP by phone and in writing. If they can't get the paperwork right then look elsewhere.

The problem can often be that the printing is done in bulk and if they have had a printer error, then papers can get mixed up. Whoever sent them should have made sure that all pages were present and correctly related to the quote requested. Some companies use remove printing to outside companies, who send out the paperwork for them.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
  • thanks for the reply, he is definetly not going with the company now because if they can make so many mistakes in a quote how much hard work would they be if he needed to claim.

i think he's going to ring today when he's in work if he gets chance its just such a shame because it was a very good quote, but im wondering now if it seems such a good quote because they have alot of the figures wrong and if they were to amend it it would shoot up.

    Thanks for the help :)
  • Do ring them and let them know there has been a mix up and that you have destroyed the documents. (It may be an idea to keep a name or reference so that they can re send the documents that you got by mistake to the correct person)

Don't shout at the person on the phone. There's a 99.999% chance they didn't even see the documents that were printed, let alone went near the process of putting them in the envelope. :)

Mistakes do happen, even when it is a human stuffing the post. By all means call them but don't go overboard.

Do look elsewhere for your insurance.

    Utter incompetence in my view.

A bodyshop is rated differently to a mechanical service and repair garage, the rating on the EL and PL is different for a start, also policy conditions that are specific to a bodyshop eg. Paint spraying warranties/endorsements, storage of flammables (paint/thinners). And a load of other stuff.

Guess this quote was obtained over the phone with box ticking numpty.

Rule 1 to all motor traders, is make sure your business description on the policy schedule is accurate!!
  • thanks for the reply's, yea i no what it's like to be shouted at by customer when i don't have a clue what they are on about because i hadnt served them and if they had just come to me first i would of given them a different answer to what they recieved lol.

my partner wasnt sure wether he should of rung the other gentleman and see if he does actually have his paperwork or wether his paperwork is with someone else also. i'm not sure if my partner has rung the insurance company yet because he's not home from work yet but hoping if he hasnt that he will do it tonight. i'm just glad that it was only a quote and that he hadnt actually gone through with the quote over the phone.

Thought the price was to good to be true because it was about £200 cheaper than any other quotes he had such a shame but its to risky incase he ever did need to claim.
